JOB DESCRIPTION



Summary/Objective:

The Engineering Manager - AC Design position will lead the Design Engineers and the development of the AC products.

As an innovative leader, you will work in partnership with other design engineering teams, supply chain team, sales team, product managers, and lab personnel to deliver new and exciting products that deliver value to our customers as well as ensuring that products meet safety and code requirements.

In this role, you will track metrics and manage the team accordingly to accelerate the development cycle to bring new products to market faster. This is a working manager position, and you will have your own specific projects in addition to managing an engineering team.

  • Provide direction to teams to meet strategic annual operating plans and continuous improvement plans, through both new product development projects and value added/value engineering projects.
  • Strong communication about project status and maintain project progress in Microsoft Project, while following our product development process.
  • This position will be responsible for ensuring that products meet safety and design requirements while delivering a quality experience for the end users.
  • This position will manage the people who report up through their org chart, which may consist of supervisors, engineers, interns, and technicians.
  • Hold weekly meetings with the team to review project status and impact on department KPI.
  • Implement changes or improvements to the Engineering systems to make the team more effective.
  • Understands the concepts of Design for Manufacturing and the ability to implement this in all projects being worked on.
  • Work to and hold the team accountable to the Phase Gate Product Development Process to ensure products are developed to meet the standards as required without re-work.
  • Understands UL/CSA requirements and how those impact the product.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with interruptions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support the organization.

  • Will manage employees, which may consist of supervisors, engineers, interns, and technicians.

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
  • The work environment is climate controlled.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands & fingers to handle or feel; and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk working on a computer. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

  • Office / 40+ hours

Travel:

  • Some travel as required, < 20%

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
  • Proven track record as a team leader with an understanding of management practices
  • Demonstrated project and budget management skills
  • Ability to set overall strategy and drive continuous improvement
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from internal customers and external customers.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, communication skills, multitasking abilities, and the ability to communicate written and orally.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) required

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in engineering or equivalent graduate degree
  • 3-5 years supervisory experience in design engineering or related field
  • Multi-team management experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project
  • Ability to use SolidWorks or other CAD software
