Engineering Department:

The Engineering department at PracticeTek is responsible for designing, developing, and scaling our SaaS platform to meet the needs of thousands of healthcare providers. Working closely with Product and Design teams, Engineering ensures the seamless delivery of performant, secure, and cost-effective software solutions.
The Engineering team is responsible for the foundational infrastructure, security, and reliability functions that support all PracticeTek products. This includes cloud architecture, observability, cost efficiency, and compliance with regulatory requirements like HIPAA and PCI.

The Career Opportunity

We are looking for a seasoned Engineering Manager to lead the PracticeQ engineering team. The successful candidate will be managing multiple high-priority, highly visible, and impactful projects while overseeing a team of engineers.

In this role, you will be an advocate and coach for your team while solving various frontend and backend challenges, and scaling product success at a fast-paced startup-like environment. Our ideal candidate leverages their leadership, deep understanding of software engineering, and passion to multiply the overall output of their development team. As a technical leader, you’ll help establish the team’s vision and see it through.

Areas of Accountability:

The Engineering Manager has responsibility for the following outcomes:
 

  • Maintain approximately 40–50% hands‑on development, actively contributing to key frontend and backend deliverables while leading a team of ~5 engineers.
  • Manage multiple work streams and high-priority projects, collaborating with various cross-functional teams to identify project requirements and establish timelines.
  • Drive the technical vision and strategy, with a strong emphasis on overseeing its successful execution.
  • Cultivate strong partnerships with other interdependent engineering teams.
  • Prioritize growing your engineers as leaders and technical experts.
  • Support and foster operational excellence within the team.
  • Performs key people management responsibilities including hiring, on boarding, developing, and supervising team along with conducting performance appraisals and coaching for performance and career growth.


Competencies for Success:

  • 3+ years of experience managing consumer-facing teams.
  • Relevant hands-on experience with our current tech stack is necessary: .NET Framework, AngularJS, MongoDB Atlas, and Microsoft Azure. Including integrations with solutions such as Twilio, Mailgun.
  • Excited by and experience in leading the process to modernize a technology platform.
  • Proven experience leveraging AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Junie) in day‑to‑day development workflows.
  • Hands‑on history driving team‑wide adoption of AI‑assisted development practices, enabling measurable productivity and quality gains.
  • Practical experience integrating and optimizing emerging frameworks such as MCP (Model Context Protocol) within engineering pipelines.
  • Experience with continuous delivery and continuous integration practices and platforms that enable them. Experience with GitHub Actions is .
  • Ability to review code and architecture for flaws (code-smell), to mentor team members in appropriate coding and design patterns.
  • A major plus if you have relevant experience with these technologies: Spring Boot, Kotlin, Angular, Redis, Datadog, Docker, Kubernetes and AWS.
  • Equally comfortable as both a technical contributor and motivating leader, empowering engineers to thrive in their role.

  • Strong understanding of and experience with HIPAA compliance and other healthcare data regulations is a plus.


At PracticeTek we carefully consider a wide range of compensation factors to determine our offers of employment. This includes internal and external market factors as well as your individual experience and skills. These considerations can cause compensation to vary but we reasonably expect to pay between $150,000-$200,000 for this position.
