Working closely with Project Managers and Heads of Discipline, they oversee internal and supply chain teams to deliver safe, high-quality, and value-driven outcomes.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n * \n\n Lead engineering/design across projects, ensuring cost, time, and quality targets.\n\n * \n\n Ensure compliance with VVB’s design management, assurance, and quality systems.\n\n * \n\n Drive constructability, HSE best practice, and technical excellence through design reviews.\n\n * \n\n Liaise with internal/external stakeholders to integrate requirements effectively.\n\n * \n\n Provide accurate design estimates and resource planning; track design changes.\n\n * \n\n Conduct design audits, resolve non-conformances, and manage sector engineering resources.\n\n * \n\n Oversee documentation: design registers, RFIs, TQs, MARs, and risk registers.\n\n * \n\n Perform CAT 1/2 design checks and act as Design Manager on smaller projects.\n\n * \n\n Support graduate development and foster a collaborative, innovative team culture.\n\nSector-Specific Duties\nRail – Act as CRE/CEM per NR/L2/INI/02009; ensure compliance with TfL and 3rd party rail standards.\nHighways – Adhere to Highways (CD352) and CPS/private road tunnel standards.\nPower & Utilities – Serve as CDAE/IDC under TP188; ensure compliance with NG, UKPN, Water UK, and WIMES standards.\n\nSkills & Experience\n\nEssential:\n\n * \n\n Broad engineering leadership across multiple disciplines and project phases.\n\n * \n\n MEPHFC systems expertise and design assurance knowledge.\n\n * \n\n Skilled in planning, budgeting, and performance reporting.\n\n * \n\n Proficient in 2D/3D CAD, BIM (min Level 2), CDM 2015 compliance, and MS Office.\n\n * \n\n Strong client/stakeholder management and site issue resolution.\n\n * \n\n Knowledge of design, procurement, installation, and commissioning processes.\n\nDesired:\n\n * \n\n Sustainability and lifecycle design awareness.\n\n * \n\n Exposure to DSEAR, ATEX, and hazardous area standards.\n\n * \n\n Experience with maintenance-focused projects.\n\nQualifications\n\nEssential:\n\n * \n\n Accredited Engineering degree; Chartered status.\n\n * \n\n Professional membership (IET, IMechE, CIBSE, etc.).\n\n * \n\n HSE training (SMSTS/IOSH), CSCS (AQP/PQP), Full UK driving licence.\n\nDesired:\n\n * \n\n Project Management (APM/PRINCE2), NEBOSH, TWC, AP (Lifting/Elec/Mech).\n\nExperience\n\n * \n\n Proven engineering/project leadership in design, T&C, and handover.\n\n * \n\n Roles held: Design Engineer, Lead Engineer, Project/Design/Commissioning Manager\n\n * \n\n Strong client-facing and turnkey project delivery background.\n\nVVB is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
