Engineering Manager
Job Description : Report to: General Director A JOB PURPOSE • To plan, develop, maintain and manage the container handling equipment in the terminal as well as the Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) and Electronics & Communications (E&C) works to meet the overall business plans and requirements B CRITICAL ACCOUNTABILITIES • To oversee the development, implementation and review of the terminal’s equipment maintenance policy for all container handling equipment, supporting facilities/equipment, M&E and Electronic & Communication systems to ensure that these are optimally maintained to meet the required service levels. • To endorse, review and approve all technical specifications and design drawings for container handling equipment and supporting facilities purchases to ensure compliance with user requirements, statutory requirements and codes of practice. • To ensure projects are completed to specification on time, within budget, and in compliance with approved plans, codes of practice, contract specifications and department quality system. • To ensure that contracts are administered according to specifications and within timeline. • To provide technical expertise and productivity improvements. • To plan and manage manpower required to support equipment and facilities maintenance. • To guide and develop staff to ensure dept has the capability and competency to carry all maintenance work. • To enforce safe work practice, safety awareness and work-site safety standards for staff and contractors. • To ensure staff well-being is followed through so as to build up a disciplined and diligent workforce. C KEY DECISIONS • Decide on optimal staffing level and deployment of engineering staff to carry out work. • Formulate maintenance budgets for all equipment in the terminal • Formulate manpower and training plans for staff • Inventory control measures to ensure optimal equipment availability Job Requirement : PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND • Bachelor Degree of Electrical or Mechanical Engineering • At least 10 years’ working experience in industrial and/or heavy equipment maintenance or related industries • Fluent in English TECHNICAL SKILLS • Good knowledge of Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics and Controls Engineering • Good knowledge of project management, project supervision and contract administration • Interaction with regulatory bodies and private sectors • Good knowledge on Building Rules and Regulations, Relevant Codes of Practice and Fire Safety Act/Electricity Act • Up-to-date knowledge of new products, developments and technologies in related fields BUSINESS SKILLS • Good understanding of the container handling equipment business • Understands budgeting and cost management • Tendering and Contract procedures • Ability to articulate ideas and communicate with all levels of staff.
