The Engineering & Maintenance Manager is a Senior Leadership Role responsible for overseeing all aspects of the maintenance operations within the food production facility. This position ensures the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all equipment, utilities, and facility infrastructure. The Maintenance Manager plays a critical role in driving operational excellence through preventative maintenance, capital expenditure (CapEx) initiatives, facility expansions, and special projects that support the company’s growth and compliance with industry regulations.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Operations Management

  • Lead and manage the daily operations of the maintenance department to ensure optimal equipment reliability and plant uptime.
  • Lead the planning, scheduling, and execution of planned and predictive/preventive maintenance activities, using root cause analysis and problem-solving to mitigate issues. Utilizing the newest technologies and software for reporting, presentations and analysis. Create a culture of breakdown elimination.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all production machinery, utilities, and facility systems.
  • Coordinate with production, quality, and engineering teams to minimize equipment downtime and meet production schedules.
  • Drive Strategic Cost Savings – Lead cost ideation and diagnostics, execute high-value projects (SMED, 6W2H, Why-Why), and support standard work efforts and budgeting.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, food safety, and environmental regulations, including OSHA, FDA, USDA, and other relevant standards.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Supervise, coach, and mentor maintenance supervisors, technicians, and support staff.
  • Establish performance objectives, provide regular feedback, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Identify skill gaps and develop training programs to enhance the technical capabilities of the maintenance team.

Capital Projects & Facility Expansions

  • Partner with engineering, operations, and executive leadership on the planning, budgeting, and execution of capital expenditure (CapEx) projects.
  • Lead maintenance efforts on facility expansions, equipment installations, and system upgrades to improve production capacity, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for contractors, vendors, and consultants involved in construction, installation, and special projects.

Budgeting & Cost Management

  • Develop and manage the annual maintenance budget, including labor, spare parts, services, and project costs.
  • Identify energy efficiency initiatives.
  • Monitor expenses to ensure adherence to budgetary targets while maintaining high operational standards.
  • Optimize Operational Efficiency – Identify and eliminate sources of loss, improve OEE, and benchmark best practices across the manufacturing plant. Deploy strategic methodologies, systems, and tools, such as Autonomous Maintenance, Reliability Maintenance, Problem Solving, Process Mapping, etc. to deliver site OEE and cost savings goals.

Compliance, Safety & Sustainability

  • Maintain documentation and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to equipment, facilities, and environmental impact.
  • Drive continuous improvements in plant safety, energy conservation, and waste reduction.
  • Support sustainability initiatives aligned with corporate goals and regulatory requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field ; equivalent technical experience considered.
  • 8–10+ years of progressive maintenance experience in a food production, manufacturing, or processing environment, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record managing preventive and predictive maintenance programs, as well as leading CapEx and facility expansion projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial equipment, utilities (HVAC, refrigeration, boilers, compressors, etc.), and plant automation systems.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance standards (OSHA, FDA, USDA, GMP, HACCP, etc.).
  • Exceptional project management, budgeting, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, including exposure to cold storage areas, production floors, and outdoor facility areas as required.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet; however, it can be moderate or loud when on the production floor.

Employees must wear proper food safe, steel toe shoes, hair net and beard net, nitrile gloves, frock, bump cap, hat, and proper hearing protection while working in certain areas.
