Engineering Shift Lead (Nights)

Hamilton - Site-based 4 on / 4 off (Night Shift. 7pm -7am) Up to £58,000

The Opportunity

MRD Recruitment is working in partnership with a leading food manufacturing business to recruit an experienced Engineering Shift Lead for their site in Hamilton.

This is a key leadership role on the night shift, responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all production and site equipment while leading a team of engineers in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The Role

As Engineering Shift Lead, you will take ownership of all engineering activity during your shift, combining hands-on technical expertise with strong leadership.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and supervising a team of engineers on shift
  • Prioritising and delegating maintenance and breakdown activities
  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults
  • Minimising downtime and supporting production targets
  • Driving planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules
  • Leading root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
  • Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and food safety standards (GMP / HACCP)
  • Monitoring shift performance, downtime, and maintenance activity via CMMS
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the site
  • Managing effective shift handovers and communication

About You

We're looking for a hands-on engineering leader with experience in a manufacturing environment.

Essential:

  • Proven experience in maintenance engineering (ideally FMCG / food manufacturing)
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience
  • Strong multi-skilled engineering knowledge (mechanical & electrical)
  • Experience working with production, packaging, and utility equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and organisational skills

Desirable:

  • Experience with CMMS systems
  • PLC fault finding / automation exposure
  • IOSH or relevant health & safety certification
  • Food safety / GMP knowledge
