Description:

The Senior Engineer is responsible for managing and administering multi-faceted and complex federally, state, and locally funded transportation projects. This includes the design and construction of major streetscape, roadway, traffic, drainage, and bridge projects.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Managing transportation projects through the full project lifecycle, including coordinating resources, securing permits, approving materials, schedules, pay estimates, and contracts, developing budgets, and ensuring compliance with regulations.

  • Preparing, coordinating, reviewing, and monitoring project designs, drawings, specifications, engineering studies, estimates, and related documents.

  • Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting engineering data.

  • Conducting investigations and inspections to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and regulations.

  • Reviewing and evaluating detailed plans, specifications, and standards; identifying conflicts and making field adjustments as needed.

  • Maintaining logs, records, permits, and databases; preparing and maintaining project reports, permit applications, and inspection documents.

  • Meeting with project coordinators, consulting engineers, contractors, and stakeholders.

  • Drafting and processing engineering documents, resolutions, and ordinances.

Note: This position is considered essential personnel and may be required to work during emergencies, hazardous conditions, inclement weather, nights, weekends, holidays, or on-call as needed.

Minimum Training and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering.

  • Three years of engineering experience.

  • Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.

Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements:

  • Some assignments may require a valid drivers license with a satisfactory driving record.

  • Must obtain a valid state drivers license within 30 days of hire (if applicable).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of project management.

  • Methods and techniques of engineering plan design, review, and approval.

  • Civil engineering principles, practices, and methods.

  • Construction management principles.

  • Site, roadway, and utility design standards.

  • Technical report preparation and business writing.

  • Applicable federal, state, and local codes, laws, and regulations.

Skills in:

  • Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Reading and interpreting GIS maps and AutoCAD Civil plans.

  • Technical writing.

  • Effective oral and written communication.

Abilities to:

  • Oversee the development of designs, plans, specifications, estimates, and reports.

  • Perform project management and civil engineering functions.

  • Ensure compliance with regulations, standards, and procedures.

  • Prepare and manage project budgets.

  • Communicate effectively with employees, contractors, vendors, and .

  • Assemble and present complex information clearly.
