Engineer I, Senior

The plan approval Senior Engineer I is responsible for the activities related to an assigned organizational element, program, project, or task. Will normally plan, conduct, and supervise engineering design reviews and analysis assignments involving a major project or several smaller or less complex projects. These projects, by nature of their complexity and difficulty, require the fully competent application of conventional knowledge in a particular engineering or scientific field. Project work and assignments may be broad, requiring ingenuity and cross-functional coordination.What You Will Do: Provides day-to-day leadership of Engineering staff assigned. Assigns projects to Engineers and monitors the progress of all assigned projects. Ensures the delivery of high-quality service and maintenance of good customer relations.  Review of engineering documents like, piping P&IDs, hydraulic calculations, manuals, fire control plans, firefighting systems, etc.  Review includes both Marine (Ships) and Offshore (OSVs, Jack-ups, MOUs, MODUs) related aspects.  Review will be based on the ABS Class Rules, Statutory regulations like SOLAS, MARPOL, MODU Codes, ILO, etc. and Flag Administration specific requirements. Devises new approaches to problems encountered and makes recommendations for changes in methods, procedures, or design where necessary.  Monitors the technical quality, content, consistency, continuity, and timeliness of action of all assigned projects.  Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of technical responsibility. Performs engineering reviews and analyses when necessary. Reviews other engineers' work and provides appropriate guidance and training when necessary.  Participates in the development and changes of Rules. Advises assigned staff in matters related to the application of Rules and Regulations.  Prepares written response to clients in accordance with established procedures.  Maintains liaison with other engineering specialists internally and externally.  Monitors the performance, development potential and training needs of engineers assigned. Keeps management informed of manpower needs.  Develops or assists in the development of qualification statements, proposals, bids and other presentation materials.  Implements and maintains the ABS Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management Systems within assigned area of responsibility.  Prepares accurate billing to clients. What You Will Need:Education and Experience degree in Mechanical or other related disciplines. Demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software. Ten to fifteen (‒) years of related engineering experience in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or a classification society; or four () years as an ABS Engineer II.  Internal candidates should have at least four () year of experience working as an Engineer II. Classification Society Engineering experience is Highly preferred and considered as an added advantage.  Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Plan review or design experience related to piping P&IDs, hydraulic calculations, manuals, fire control plans, firefighting systems, etc.  Comprehensive knowledge about Ship’s or Jack-up’s machinery and piping systems. Well-versed with SOLAS, MARPOL, IMO MODU Codes, ILO, and Industrial and national recognized standards. Experience with different software related to review scope is preferred. Innovative thinking and knowledge of sophisticated tools like software platforms.  Should have advanced practical industry related experience.  Knowledge of related technical disciplines.  Knowledge of applicable Rules and Regulations and impact of Rule applications and interpretations.  Knowledge of company business policies and procedures.  The human relations skills necessary to maintain positive client contacts and provide leadership and motivation to subordinate staff and peers.  Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.  Ability to identify, analyze and solve complex or unique engineering problems.  Ability to undertake short- and long-term planning to provide for efficient and effective scheduling of work assignments.  A working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management Systems (internal candidates only). It Would Be Nice If You HadClassification Society experience and professional/chartered engineer license.Experience regarding mechanical Equipment.Reporting Relationships:The incumbent will generally report to the Managing Principal Engineer regarding day-to-day technical activities, scheduling of work, and setting priorities. This position has no direct reports.Working Conditions:Work will normally be performed in an air-conditioned office environment. Occasionally will be required to visit manufacturing plants, remote field sites or go aboard marine vessels or structures.
