Energy Recovery Engineer

The Department of Environmental Services, Refuse Collection and Disposal Division is hiring an Energy Recovery Engineer. The position assists the Energy Recovery Administrator with monitoring the operating contractor's performance at the H-POWER waste-to-energy plant. Duties include, but are not limited to, developing and maintaining engineering records, verifying performance guarantees, verifying technical contractual responsibilities, performing engineering liaison, and providing engineering input in planning other waste-to-energy projects.

Special work conditions include inspections of industrial sites, use of safety equipment, and knowledge of emergency chemical showers/eye wash equipment.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a , or permanent alien of the United States or a non- eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four year college or university with a bachelor's degree in an engineering specialty. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: One (1) year of registered professional engineering experience in the planning, design, and/or operation of a large oil, coal, waste, or nuclear fueled power plant. Applicable Skills: Knowledge of design requirements of a large oil, coal, waste-to-energy, nuclear power plants and other energy recovery facilities. Knowledge of construction standards, requirements and problems. Knowledge of plans and specifications regarding power plants. Knowledge of principles and practices of engineering regarding the design, construction, maintenance and operation of waste-to-energy plants and other energy recovery facilities. Ability to coordinate, review and monitor highly complex plant design, and operating and power contracts relating to the construction, maintenance and operation of power plants. Experience: Experience in the planning, design, and/or operation of a large waste-fueled power plant. LICENSE REQUIREMENT: Current State of Hawaii registration as a professional engineer in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural Engineering. Applicants with a current out-of-state professional engineer license must obtain their Hawaii license prior to appointment.
