Energy Efficiency Engineering Lead

with a strong background in Utility Engineering to join our growing team in Southern California. As an Energy Efficiency Engineering Lead, you will help customers reduce energy consumption and save money at their facilities by identifying potential energy savings measures, quantifying and summarizing project economics, supporting project implementation, and verifying installation.

Duties and Responsibilities

Support implementation of prescriptive, custom, and meter-based energy efficiency projects in adherence to PA and CPUC guidelines. Support may include conducting site audits, completing energy modeling, economic analysis, and/or simulation to quantify energy impacts of recommendations using spreadsheets and/or energy modeling software, developing project scopes, summarizing implementation details, and explaining impacts on operations.

Conduct energy analysis for projects at medium to large commercial facilities (high-tech, biotech, labs, healthcare, private institutions, etc.) to identify and recommend energy efficiency improvements across various systems such as lighting, HVAC, compressed air, refrigeration, process heating, motors, central plant, boiler plant, pumping, and fuel substitution.

Serve as the primary technical contact with customers and participate in client calls to discuss project details.

Write technical reports (PFS, IR) summarizing energy assessments, project economics, and potential savings.

Conduct measurement and verification (M&V) site visits to assess energy usage, identify savings opportunities, and verify installation of projects. Tasks may include installing monitoring equipment, collecting BAS data, performing functional tests, and discussing project implementation.

Prepare regression models for meter-based projects and develop M&V plans.

Coordinate with project stakeholders including program staff, contractors, and utility customers to maximize utility program benefits.

Deliver high-quality, professional services and build rapport with utility customers.

Ensure deliverables meet technical standards, maintain project budgets and schedules.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Energy, or related engineering field.

5+ years of project engineering experience in the energy efficiency industry in California.

Understanding of California EE policies and experience with custom and meter-based project implementation.

Valid U.S. driver’s license with a good driving record and personal vehicle for site visits.

Willingness to travel locally up to 20%.

Strong communication, analytical, planning, and organizational skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and open-source data analysis tools.

Interest in sustainability and environmental impact.

Qualifications

Knowledge of relevant energy efficiency codes and standards (e.g., Title 24, ASHRAE, IECC).

Master’s degree in Mechanical, Energy, or related engineering.

Certifications such as P.E., C.E.M., C.B.C.P., or C.E.A.
