Energy & Compliance Manager - Electricity & Natural Gas

You are a forward thinking, strategic procurement leader who has a passion for energy management, contract negotiations, analyzing metrics, and implementing performance improvement. You will play a critical role in partnering with our Wood Products business on initiatives, by executing the best procurement strategies for electricity. You are a leader who can influence teams and other stakeholders to maximize procurement performance.
In this role, your primary responsibility will be to identify, plan, develop, and execute electricity, natural gas and propane strategies aligned to WNR’s Procurement Roadmap as well as business and mill requirements. To be successful in this role, you will partner with other Energy Managers and build relationships with key stakeholders and communicate and partner with all levels of the organization. You will need to be involved in and understand our current energy demand and supply practices, and our overall procurement strategy and roadmap. You will need to be in front of emerging energy regulations and energy market trends, as well as changes in our industry that impact our operational costs and risks.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute Energy Management Strategy for electricity
Execution strategy related to negotiation and award
Partner with site leaders to develop and implement agreements’ energy strategy
Work with business leadership to develop broader long-term energy strategies
Negotiate and manage energy contracts (electricity, natural gas, alternative fuels [i.e., biofuels], and propane if required) and related services for multiple manufacturing sites across the U.S. and Canada
Conduct RFPs manually or through 3rd party sourcing platforms, and evaluate proposals
Negotiate and award energy contracts, working with the law department
Obtain proper approval on agreements according to delegation of authority
Upload and maintain all contracts and related documents in central contract management repository
Communicate terms of agreements to appropriate leaders and stakeholders
Monitor market conditions for buying opportunities and periodically solicit indicative bids for price discovery
Assist in onboarding new leaders by reviewing existing agreements and strategies with them
Monitor and audit energy invoice data against contract terms and prices to ensure correct pricing
Risk Management and Compliance
Review existing energy strategy and agreements to identify risk areas
Research and analyze energy markets to identify cost and risk reduction opportunities
Evaluate material cost impacts of market price excursions and new legislation, communicate and escalate material cost impacts, and seek approval before remedies
Plan for and develop action plans to handle energy upset conditions
Manage contracts to prevent downtime due to energy access issues
Research and analyze federal and state energy legislation and regulations to identify compliance risks
Serve as Regulatory Compliance Manager and manage the compliance program with guidelines to ensure compliance with policy, ethics, laws and regulations
Collaborate with compliance leaders, law department, and 3rd party resources to ensure compliance in electricity and natural gas procurement and related activities
Prepare and submit energy reporting as required by government or stakeholders
Oversee regulatory reports: extract, calculate, and submit reports
Provide energy training and lead the development of training programs
Develop energy data management and forecasting for planning and regulatory risk assessment
Support leadership on energy projects and regulatory interventions
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, finance, procurement/supply chain, business administration, law, or other energy related fields. Or equivalent work experience (7+ years of energy procurement management experience in heavy industry manufacturing setting)
5+ years managing multimillion-dollar energy spend spanning multiple facilities
Proven ability to draft and negotiate multimillion-dollar contracts
Proven ability to generate savings and mitigate price increases
Proven experience leading cross-functional teams and managing a decentralized team
Ability to create energy strategies with various methods to obtain optimal outcomes
Strong communication skills with senior leaders and hourly associates
Experience with Microsoft Office and forecasting price trends; experience exporting SAP reports and using analytics tools
Preferred Qualifications
Professional energy accreditation (CEM, CEA, or equivalent)
Master’s degree in engineering, data science, law, finance, business administration, or other energy related fields
5+ years in procurement strategic sourcing
Experience with medium and high voltage industrial systems and energy infrastructure
Experience in conflict management and resolution
Experience in the wood products industry
Experience with SAP ECC or S/4 MM module
This role has the ability to be a fully remote work-from-home position, provided you are based in one of the allowed states. This role is not open to those who live in other states or countries.

Compensation:
This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, with a target salary range of 97,351-146,027 based on skills and experience. Eligible for our Annual Incentive Program with a target bonus of 10% of base pay.
