Energy & Compliance Manager - Electricity & Natural Gas

You are a forward thinking, strategic procurement leader who has a passion for energy management, contract negotiations, analyzing metrics, and implementing performance improvement. You will play a critical role in partnering with our Wood Products business on initiatives, by executing the best procurement strategies for electricity. You are a leader who can influence teams and other stakeholders to maximize procurement performance.

In this role, your primary responsibility will be to identify, plan, develop, and execute electricity, natural gas and propane strategies aligned to WNR’s Procurement Roadmap as well as business and mill requirements. To be successful in this role, you will partner with other Energy Managers and build relationships with key stakeholders and communicate and partner with all levels of the organization. You will need to be involved in and understand our current energy demand and supply practices, and our overall procurement strategy and roadmap. You will need to be in front of emerging energy regulations and energy market trends, as well as changes in our industry that impact our operational costs and risks.

Primary Responsibilities:

Develop and execute Energy Management Strategy for electricity

Execution strategy related to negotiation and award

Partner with site leaders to develop and implement agreements’ energy strategy

Work with business leadership to develop broader long-term energy strategies

Negotiate and manage energy contracts (electricity, natural gas, alternative fuels [i.e., biofuels], and propane if required) and related services for multiple manufacturing (~34 mills) and non-manufacturing sites across the U.S. and Canada

Conduct RFP manually or through 3rd party sourcing platforms, and evaluate proposals

Negotiate and award energy contracts, working with the law department

Obtain proper approval on agreements according to delegation of authority

Upload and maintain all contracts and related documents in central contract management repository

Communicate terms of agreements to appropriate leaders and stakeholders

Monitor market conditions for buying opportunities and periodically solicit indicative bids for the purpose of price discovery

Assist in onboarding new leaders by reviewing existing agreements and strategies with them

Monitor and audit energy invoice data against contract terms and prices to ensure we are paying the correct contract prices on the correct quantities.

Risk Management

Review existing energy strategy and agreements to identify risk areas

Research and analyze energy markets to identify opportunities to reduce cost and risk

Promptly evaluate material cost impacts of market price excursions, and new legislation and regulation, communicate and escalate notifications of material cost impacts, and seek approval before proceeding with remedies and/or mitigating measures

Assist in planning for and developing action plans to deal with energy upset conditions (weather, restrictions, prices)

Manage contracts to prevent downtime due to lack of access to the required energy, and to ensure sites continue to operate.

Research and analyze federal and state energy legislation and regulations to identify new or potential compliance risks

Regulatory Compliance

Serve as the Regulatory Compliance Manager

Manage Weyerhaeuser’s compliance program with analysis of activities and guidelines to ensure compliance with policy, ethics, laws and regulations

Work with Weyerhaeuser compliance leaders, law department, and 3rd party resources to ensure compliance with all laws and standards involved in the purchase, sale, distribution, and transmission of electricity or natural gas associated with Weyerhaeuser’s sites

Prepare and submit energy reporting as required by government or stakeholders

Monitor compliance

Oversee regulatory reports: extract & gather energy data, calculate, summarize, and submit reports

Provide Energy Training

Lead the development of Energy Management and Regulatory Compliance training programs

Conduct ad-hoc training as required

Manage and Oversee Energy Data

Gather market intelligence

Provide forecasts of energy prices as required

Provide insights for capital projects and annual planning concerning energy costs and regulatory risks

Monitor energy usage via 3rd party systems and/or internal systems

Technical energy resource for site and business leaders

Address requests for information or support on various energy related matters

Coach and guide leaders on energy issues

Work with leaders of large capital projects to develop energy strategies for new manufacturing capacity

Partner and assist other departments (legal, risk management, government affairs, etc.) in regulatory interventions

Represent Weyerhaeuser interests in regulatory interventions by energy consumer groups

Work with industrial energy consumer groups

Represent Weyerhaeuser’s interests in energy policy and regulatory interventions

Provide guidance and expertise to site leadership and Weyerhaeuser Government Affairs staff

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, finance, procurement/supply chain, business administration, law, or other energy related fields. Or equivalent work experience (i.e., 7 years of energy procurement management experience in heavy industry manufacturing setting)

5 years managing multimillion dollars (min $50Million) energy spend spanning multiple facilities

Proven ability to effectively draft and negotiate multimillion dollar contracts

Proven ability to consistently generate savings and mitigate price increases

Proven experience leading/managing cross-functional teams

Experience working within or leading a decentralized team

Proven ability to create energy strategies with a variety of methods to obtain optimal outcomes

Ability to relate to and communicate with senior leaders as well as hourly associates

Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point, etc.)

Experience with forecasting price trends and reporting to a broad audience

Experience exporting SAP reports and using analytics tools to analyze data

Qualifications:

Professional energy accreditation (CEM, CEA, or equivalent)

Master’s degree in engineering, data science, law, finance, business administration, or other energy related fields of study

5 years in procurement strategic sourcing

Experience with Medium and High Voltage industrial systems, in , utilization, protection and control

Experience in conflict management and resolution

Experience in wood products industry

Experience with SAP ECC or S/4 MM module

This role has the ability to be a fully remote work-from-home position, provided you are currently based (or are planning to move to) one of the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington. This role is not open to those who live in other states or countries.

Compensation : This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of$97,351-$146,027based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 10% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Paid Time Off or Vacation : We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours and paid parental leave for all full-time employees.
