Electronics Test Engineer

Role Overview

Based at a site near Exeter, the Electronics Test Engineer supports both product development and quality assurance across our diverse portfolio of rugged power accessories and outdoor consumer technologies.
The role focuses on low voltage electronics testing, circuit level fault finding, and functional verification. This ensures our hardware meets strict performance, reliability, and quality requirements for demanding marine, recreational vehicle (RV), and automotive environments. This position offers a competitive salary of £40,000-£50,000, depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities

Product Development Support (≈50%)

Support the development of new and existing electronic products
Build, modify, and test electronic prototypes and pre‑production units
Set up and execute functional and performance tests on PCBs and assemblies
Analyse electronic circuits including:
Interpret schematics, PCB layouts, and bills of materials
Identify electronic design weaknesses and support design improvements
Work closely with design engineers to support development iterations

Quality Assurance & Control (≈50%)

Perform verification and validation testing against electronic product requirements
Carry out quality testing on production and incoming electronic assemblies
Investigate electronic failures from:
Production testing
Environmental or endurance testing
Customer and field returns
Perform component‑ and PCB level fault finding
Identify root causes and support corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
Support pre‑compliance testing activities (e.g. EMC related investigations)
Ensure test results, failures, and actions are clearly documented and traceable

Skills and Experience

Strong hands on practical experience with low voltage electronic products.
Proven PCB‑level fault‑finding and diagnostic capability.
Experience testing power electronics, charging circuits, or control electronics.
Confident use of multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and electronic loads.
Ability to analyse failures down to component or circuit level.
Clear technical reporting and documentation skills.
Experience in marine, automotive, or rugged consumer electronics is desirable.

Qualifications

HNC/HND, degree, apprenticeship, or equivalent in Electronic Engineering.
Relevant industry experience may substitute for formal qualifications.
