The Role
We are seeking an Electronic Engineer to join a specialist maritime engineering organisation based in Cannock. This is a permanent, hands-on role combining electronic design, design proving, and test & verification, supporting the development of mission-critical systems used in maritime and naval applications.
You will be involved across the full product lifecycle from concept and detailed design through to build, test, validation, and support of systems in service. The role suits an engineer who enjoys seeing their designs physically built, tested, and proven in real-world environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electronic circuits and assemblies (analogue, digital, and mixed signal)
- Produce schematics, design documentation, and test specifications
- Support prototype builds and design proving activities
- Plan and execute hands-on testing, verification, and validation activities
- Diagnose faults and support design improvements and corrective actions
- Work closely with mechanical, systems, and manufacturing teams
- Support qualification, acceptance, and environmental testing where required
- Contribute to design reviews and technical discussions
- Ensure designs meet safety, performance, and regulatory requirements
Requirements
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline
- Proven experience in electronic design (analogue and/or digital)
- Hands-on experience with test, verification, and fault-finding activities
- Comfortable working with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and signal generators
- Experience producing technical documentation and test reports
- Ability to work effectively in a secure, on-site engineering environment
Desirable Experience
- Background in maritime, defence, aerospace, or other safety-critical industries
- Experience supporting products through the full lifecycle (design to in-service support)
- Exposure to environmental or qualification testing
- Knowledge of EMC, power electronics, or embedded systems
