Electronic Engineer
Job Description
● To support the technical development and manage the delivery of electronic and system integration aspects of a number of hardware projects for the Pest Innovation and Product Development team.
● Working as part of a multi-functional team, the team will consist of both internal and external resources. The technical electronic and system work packages will be delivered mainly from external partners.
● To support the technical activities involved in the design and execution of electronic hardware devices from concept through to commercialisation with a core focus on managing the manufacturing for production and post production activities.
● You are not expected to design and develop electronics, PCBs or firmware but you must be able to specify and agree work packages and targets to ensure the external partners can progress the solution from design to supply. You will liaise and work with the key RI manufacturing partners.
● Work with product development colleagues to define robust and thorough qualification programs to approve product hardware.
● Set appropriate manufacturing and quality expectations with third party suppliers.
● Ensure that projects are delivered to specification on time, and to the right quality
Skills and Experience:
● A minimum of a good honours degree in an electronics or system engineering or similar discipline or demonstrable experience working in product delivery for at least 3 years.
● Knowledge of how to deliver electronic design, PCBs and Firmware into production is essential.
● Experience of PCB, firmware and software analysis tools are required to assess deliverables, rather than to design.
● Experience in process design and verification of electronics systems is required.
● Working knowledge and use of common IT applications including G suite, Adobe and Microsoft Office .
● Experience in low power battery operated and mains powered devices is beneficial.
● A good understanding of IOT platforms and wireless communications would be an advantage.
● A good engineering background with proven experience of working with teams and working within a matrix organisation structure. In your role you will be expected to work with Project Managers and other like minded individuals from Product Design, Science, mechanical and electromechanical backgrounds.
● A good communicator, calm under pressure and capable of managing multiple priorities.
● Experience and being happy to work across borders, regions and cultures would be beneficial.
● Able to manage and deliver a number of projects concurrently will be required.
● Good analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to generate and interpret technical data, provide conclusions and recommendations for follow up action accordingly.
● Commercially astute with an understanding of product cost structures and knowledge of financial considerations required to assess the commercial viability of new development initiatives.
● Able to collaborate within multi-functional teams, working beyond the direct sphere of influence to deliver results. Effective partnering with peers to deliver against common goals (both face to face and within ‘virtual’ teams). Ability to communicate both verbally and in written format to different levels within an organisation.
● Statistical engineering and data improvement experience/capabilities - with knowledge of 6 sigma relating to Electronic systems design and approvals desirable.
