Specific Job Description:

RMSL is seeking an Electro-Mechanical Engineer to lead electrical system design and integration for an exciting and complex project involving a dozen interconnected stations, robotic subsystems, and a large, centralized control panel. While leaning more towards electrical design, this role will require mechanical design experience on SOLIDWORKS to assist with other projects. This position will report to the Automation & Robotics Group Manager and play a critical role in defining and implementing the electrical architecture, documentation, and integration strategy for automated manufacturing systems.


Duties Include:

  • Lead the design, documentation, and implementation of complex electrical control systems
  • Develop and maintain wiring schematics, panel layouts, cable schedules, and component lists using SOLIDWORKS Electrical
  • Design and oversee the build of large control panels and power distribution systems
  • Specify and select electrical components, sensors, safety systems, PLCs, HMIs, and communication devices
  • Program or assist programming PLCs (Rockwell, Siemens, etc.) and coordinate robot integration efforts
  • Generate and maintain comprehensive electrical documentation packages for each system
  • Ensure designs meet applicable safety and regulatory standards (e.g., NFPA 79, UL508A, NEC, etc.)
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, test, chemical, software, and automation engineers throughout the design, build, and test phases
  • Lead electrical troubleshooting and commissioning of robotic and automated systems
  • Mentor and supervise junior engineers or technicians
  • Assist in customer interactions and proposal development
  • Mechanical prototype designs of products and systems from simple to complex parts and assemblies in CAD(Preferably SOLIDWORKS)
  • Work with energetic material process technology bridge materials formulation/application, component level material consolidation and integration
  • Assist in project engineering tasks such as report writing, technical presentations (at customer and public meetings), and technical deliverables tracking
  • Interface with RMSL customers, teammates, and partners in a professional manner
  • Must be able to work overtime when necessary to meet mission critical goals and timelines


Required Skills:

  • Strong experience with electrical schematic capture and control panel design
  • At least 1 year of experience designing mechanical systems on SOLIDWORKS
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.)
  • Knowledge of machine safety systems and safety circuit design
  • Working understanding of robotics, sensors, motor drives, and power distribution
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills
  • Comfortable leading technical efforts and guiding junior staff
  • Ability to troubleshoot and debug electromechanical systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong teamwork and leadership capabilities


Highly Beneficial Skills:

  • Experience with multi-station or large integrated automation systems
  • Familiarity with UL/CE requirements for control panels
  • Experience in defense, aerospace, or energetic materials industries
  • Experience in SOLIDWORKS mechanical design
  • Hands-on experience with control panel assembly and field wiring
  • Knowledge of SOLIDWORKS Electrical
  • Proficiency with PLC hardware and ladder/structured text programming (Siemens )


Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 2-3 years of relevant electrical design experience in automation or controls
  • 1 year of experience designing mechanical systems using SOLIDWORKS
  • Ability to obtain security clearance
  • Must be able to start within 3 weeks of offer
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. and work in a lab/test environment
