Job Description
Synergy Personnel Ltd are currently recruiting for Electricians for a project in Southampton, Hampshire - This is a direct role with an M&E company.\n\nJob Specification: Electrician – Refinery Project (UK)\n\nPosition Title:\n\nElectrician (Industrial / COMPEX)\n\nLocation:\n\nUK Oil Refinery Site (Project-based)\n\nContract Type:\n\nProject-based (duration depending on project scope)\n\nWorking Hours:\n\nSite-based hours, typically 40–60 hours per week with potential overtime and shift work depending on project phase.\n\nRole Purpose\n\nTo carry out electrical installation, maintenance, within a refinery environment, ensuring compliance with UK regulations, site safety standards, and hazardous-area requirements.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nElectrical Installation & Maintenance\n\nInstall and maintain industrial electrical systems, including:\n\nCable containment (tray, ladder, conduit)\n\nLV power distribution systems\n\nMotors, panels, and control systems\n\nInstrumentation power and signal cabling\n\nCarry out termination, glanding, and connection of cables to industrial equipment.\n\nHazardous Area Work\n\nWork in ATEX / hazardous environments in accordance with:\n\nBS EN 60079 series\n\nIECEx / COMPEX standards\n\nInstall and maintain equipment certified for Zone 1 & Zone 2 areas.\n\nCompliance & Safety\n\nFollow all refinery site safety rules, PTW systems, risk assessments, and method statements.\n\nEnsure all electrical work complies with:\n\nBS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations)\n\nUK Health & Safety legislation\n\nCompany and refinery-specific procedures\n\nReport hazards, incidents, and near misses immediately.\n\nDocumentation & Reporting\n\nComplete daily job sheets, test records, permits, and inspection documents.\n\nSupport QA/QC requirements during construction and commissioning phases.\n\nTeamwork & Communication\n\nCoordinate with supervisors, engineers, and other trades.\n\nEssential Qualifications & Experience\n\nNVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation or equivalent.\n\n18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).\n\nIndustrial electrical experience, ideally within petrochemical, refinery, heavy industrial, or hazardous environments.\n\nAbility to read and work from technical drawings and electrical schematics.\n\nStrong understanding of safe isolation procedures.\n\nQualifications\n\nCOMPEX Ex01–Ex04\n\nECS / JIB Gold Card (electrician).\n\nPrevious experience on shutdowns/turnarounds.\n\nConfined space training.\n\nCCNSG Safety Passport or equivalent refinery safety training.\n\nPersonal Attributes\n\nStrong safety mindset and attention to detail.\n\nReliable, punctual, and able to work under pressure.\n\nGood communication and teamwork skills.\n\nAble to adapt to changing project demands.\n\nPhysical Requirements\n\nAbility to work at height, in confined spaces, and in physically demanding environments.\n\nFit to pass refinery site medical and drug/alcohol testing.\n\nAdditional Requirements\n\nMust have the right to work in the UK.\n\nWillingness to work overtime, shifts, or weekends depending on project schedule
