Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Site Electrical Testing Engineer to join our Operations team. This is a predominantly site-based role requiring regular travel throughout the UK and, when required, internationally.\n\nThe Role\n\nReporting to the Head of Site Services, you will be responsible for the testing, commissioning, maintenance, and support of transformers and associated equipment on customer sites.\n\nThis is a hands-on position involving electrical testing, mechanical assembly, fault diagnosis, and maintenance activities. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical competence, excellent safety awareness, and the ability to work independently in demanding site environments.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n * Lead and carry out on-site transformer testing and commissioning activities.\n\n * Perform mechanical assembly and installation of transformers and associated equipment.\n\n * Conduct fault-finding, diagnostics, and repair work.\n\n * Undertake transformer maintenance activities.\n\n * Read and interpret technical drawings and electrical schematics.\n\n * Complete testing documentation and reports accurately.\n\n * Ensure compliance with site RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) and Health & Safety requirements.\n\n * Represent the company professionally when interacting with customers and stakeholders.\n\n * Travel regularly to customer sites across the UK and overseas as required.\n\nTransformer Testing Responsibilities\n\nPower Transformers\n\nCarry out testing and commissioning activities including:\n\nInsulation Resistance Testing\n\nHV Withstand Testing\n\nTransformer Ratio Testing (TTR)\n\nSweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA)\n\nWinding Resistance Testing\n\nHV and LV Current Transformer (CT) Testing\n\nBushing Testing, including Tan Delta measurements\n\nTap Changer Checks\n\nBuchholz Relay Alarm and Trip Testing\n\nOil Temperature Indicator (OTI) and Winding Temperature Indicator (WTI) Calibration\n\nPressure Relief Device (PRD), Magnetic Oil Gauge (MOG), Air Bag Relay and Oil Surge Relay Functional Checks\n\nMarshalling Box Testing\n\nCooling System Checks (including fans)\n\nRupture Detector Relay Testing\n\nImpact Recorder Results Review\n\nOil Sampling, including pre- and post-circulation analysis\n\nAshridge Monitoring System setup and testing\n\nDistribution Transformers\n\nCarry out testing including:\n\nInsulation Resistance Testing\n\nApplied Voltage / HV Withstand Testing\n\nWinding Resistance Testing\n\nTransformer Ratio Testing\n\nVector Group Verification\n\nHV and LV CT Testing\n\nMarshalling and Control Wiring Checks\n\nFunctional Testing of Auxiliary Equipment:\n\nBreathers\n\nOil Temperature Indicators (OTI)\n\nWinding Temperature Indicators (WTI)\n\nMagnetic Oil Gauges\n\nBuchholz Relays\n\nPressure Relief Devices\n\nPressure and Vacuum Gauges\n\nAdditional Site Responsibilities\n\nMechanical Assembly\n\n * Installation of radiators, conservators, and cooling systems.\n\n * Mounting HV and LV bushings and tap changers.\n\n * Gasketing and sealing to prevent oil leaks.\n\n * Installation of marshalling boxes, cable trays, and accessories.\n\n * Torque checking of mechanical fixings.\n\nElectrical Assembly\n\n * Termination of internal and external wiring.\n\n * Installation and wiring of control and protection devices.\n\n * Functional testing of alarms and trip circuits.\n\nMaintenance and Refurbishment\n\n * Oil draining, filling, and filtration support.\n\n * Replacement of gaskets, seals, and breathers.\n\n * Inspection and upgrading of transformer accessories.\n\n * Oil sampling for laboratory analysis.\n\nSite Safety and Compliance\n\n * Establishing safe working areas and site barriers.\n\n * Following approved RAMS and site safety procedures.\n\n * Safe use of lifting and rigging equipment.\n\n * Reporting hazards, near misses, and incidents.\n\nKnowledge, Skills and Experience\n\nEssential Requirements\n\nProven experience in electrical testing within an engineering environment.\n\nDemonstrable experience in transformer testing and commissioning.\n\nExperience working in site-based engineering roles and live electrical environments.\n\nRelevant electrical qualifications.\n\nStrong knowledge of electrical regulations and industry standards.\n\nAbility to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.\n\nSound understanding of Health & Safety requirements and safe systems of work.\n\nStrong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.\n\nGood communication skills.\n\nAbility to work independently and manage site activities effectively.\n\nFlexibility and willingness to travel extensively.\n\nSalary and Benefits\n\nCompetitive salary (dependent on experience).\n\n25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.\n\nQuarterly company profit share scheme.\n\nHealthcare cash plan.\n\nEmployee Assistance Programme (EAP).\n\nElectric Vehicle (EV) salary sacrifice scheme.\n\nOn-site EV charging facilities.\n\nCompany pension scheme
