General Service Technician – Roles & Responsibilities

Position Summary:
The General Service Technician is responsible for performing a wide range of service and maintenance tasks in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. Reporting directly to the Service Manager, this role requires a high level of skill, independence, professionalism, and safety. Technicians are expected to complete work with minimal supervision while providing exceptional customer service and adhering to industry and company standards.
Core Duties & Responsibilities:
- Deliver prompt, courteous, and professional service to all customers
- Complete scheduled jobs on time and communicate effectively with internal staff
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the company’s full range of services and products
- Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems including both electronic and mechanical components
- Install or repair water, fuel, and electrical lines or components
- Handle refrigerants (CFCs/HCFCs) responsibly, including installation, conservation, and recycling
- Install or service HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems related to automation or "smart home" components
- Safely access work areas; when necessary, cut or repair holes in building materials using proper safety gear
- Maintain clean and organized workspaces by removing all debris upon completion
- Follow all safety procedures and OSHA standards
- Promote additional services and products as appropriate to meet customer needs
- Operate company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner in accordance with traffic laws and company policy
- Maintain a clean driving record and uphold proper vehicle maintenance standards
- Accurately complete daily service reports, check-in/check-out procedures, and required paperwork
- Present a professional appearance and demeanor at all job sites
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must successfully pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
- Minimum one year of customer-facing experience
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Ability to work flexible hours, including 8–12 hour shifts, rotating schedules, evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts as required
- Physical ability to work in confined spaces (attics, crawlspaces), climb ladders, and perform tasks on rooftops
- Capable of lifting up to 75 lbs and transporting tools and materials into residential environments
- Familiarity with residential construction methods, framing, and basic mechanical systems
- Basic knowledge of roofing, siding, and minor drywall repair
- Proficient with power tools including drills, circular saws, and reciprocating saws
- Self-motivated, dependable, and capable of working independently while representing the company with integrity
