About the Role
We are seeking a talented
Electrical Systems Engineer
to support the design, specification, and testing of power systems that connect mechanical energy to the grid. Based in Boston, this role is ideal for an engineer with strong experience in power distribution systems and a passion for renewable energy technologies.
You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to review vendor documentation, develop test methodologies, and ensure the successful integration of equipment into utility-scale and distributed energy projects.
Key Responsibilities
Specify, source, and test power and power electronics (PE) systems to convert mechanical energy into grid-compatible electricity.
Create test procedures and conduct failure analysis for both existing and next- electrical systems.
Review electrical specifications, technical drawings, and vendor documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements.
Perform electrical equipment sizing and selection, including transformers, switchgear, MCCs, UPS systems, and other infrastructure.
Support the design of low and medium-voltage power systems and ensure safe, efficient system integration.
Technical Skills & Expertise
Strong experience in low and medium-voltage power distribution systems: power system design, protective device coordination, and power studies.
Proficient in creating and interpreting key electrical design documentation such as single-line diagrams, power and control schematics, raceway/wiring layouts, and grounding system plans used for installation and compliance.
Well-versed in electrical specifications for generators, motors, and transformers. Also experienced with switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), soft starters, and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems.
Understanding of utility interconnection design and permitting processes
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE required)
Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical system design and power distribution
Hands-on experience in renewable energy systems (solar, wind, hydro, co-gen, etc.)
Excellent communication, documentation, and collaboration skills
