Job Description

Location: EB East Ilkeston Office - Site-based, with travel to various sites\n\nJob Purpose: To lead and supervise electrical works on construction, new installation, and refurbishment projects in the water and wastewater sector. The Electrical Site Supervisor will oversee site teams, ensure compliance with WIMES (Water Industry Mechanical and Electrical Specifications), BS 7671 Wiring Regulations, client requirements, and health and safety legislation, while delivering projects to time, cost, and quality standards.\n\nJob Responsibilities\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n• Supervise and coordinate electrical site teams, subcontractors, and resources.\n\n• Plan and manage electrical works in accordance with project programmes.\n\n• Oversee installation, maintenance, and commissioning of electrical systems on water and wastewater sites.\n\n• Ensure works are delivered in line with WIMES standards and client specifications.\n\n• Carry out or oversee inspection, testing, and certification of electrical installations to BS 7671.\n\n• Undertake site inspections, audits, and toolbox talks to ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and\n\nEnvironmental standards.\n\n• Provide technical guidance, fault-finding support, and quality assurance for site teams.\n\n• Liaise with engineers, project managers, and client representatives to ensure effective communication and issue\n\nresolution.\n\n• Maintain accurate site documentation, progress records, and test certificates.\n\n• Support project handover with complete documentation and client satisfaction.\n\nStandard Responsibilities\n\nAdopt and comply with company values, policies and procedures, and regulatory frameworks including:\n\n· Code of Conduct\n\n· Health & Safety\n\n· Data Protection, privacy and use of IT resources\n\n· Regulatory standards and probity\n\n· Risks and internal controls framework\n\n· Human Resources policies and procedures\n\n· Equality and \n\nNo role profile can cover every issue which may arise within the post at various times. The post holder is\n\nexpected to carry out other duties from time to time, which are broadly consistent with those described.\n\nAdditional Information\n\n• Flexibility to travel to sites across regions.\n\n• Willingness to undertake overnight stays as required by project needs.\n\n• Ability to manage teams in varied and challenging site environments.\n\nPerson Attributes\n\nKnowledge and Skills required\n\nTechnical Knowledge\n\n· In-depth knowledge of electrical systems used in water and wastewater treatment, including LV/HV\n\ndistribution, motors, pumps, MCCs, VSDs, generators, UPS, and instrumentation.\n\n· Understanding of SCADA, PLC interfaces, telemetry systems, and control panels relevant to water\n\noperations.\n\n· Knowledge of hazardous areas, confined spaces, and electrical safety in wet and corrosive environments.\n\n· Familiarity with asset maintenance strategies, fault diagnosis, condition monitoring, and lifecycle\n\nmanagement.\n\nRegulatory and Safety Knowledge\n\n· Strong understanding of electrical safety legislation, water industry standards, and codes of practice (e.g.\n\nelectrical regulations, lock-out/tag-out, permit-to-work systems).\n\n· Knowledge of environmental, health, and safety requirements relevant to water and wastewater\n\noperations.\n\n· Understanding of risk assessment, incident investigation, and compliance auditing.\n\nSupervisory and Leadership Skills\n\n· Ability to supervise, coordinate, and mentor electrical tradespeople and contractors.\n\n· Skills in planning and scheduling maintenance, shutdowns, and capital works while minimising operational\n\nimpact.\n\n· Capability to enforce safe work practices, conduct toolbox talks, and ensure competency of personnel.\n\nOperational and Management Skills\n\n· Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in operational and emergency situations.\n\n· Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.\n\n· Effective communication skills to liaise with operations, engineering, contractors, and management.\n\n· Competence in reporting, asset management systems, and work order management.\n\nPersonal Attributes\n\n· High level of safety awareness and accountability.\n\n· Ability to work under pressure in a critical service environment.\n\n· Commitment to continuous improvement, training, and industry best practice\n\nExperience required\n\n5 Years + in the water industry\n\nEssential Qualifications\n\n• ECS / JIB Gold Card (Supervisor).\n\n• SSSTS qualification.\n\n• Recognised Electrical Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent).\n\n• 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).\n\n• City & Guilds 2391 / 2394 & 2395 (Inspection & Testing).\n\n• Proven supervisory or lead role experience in the water industry, utilities, or major construction projects.\n\n• Demonstrable knowledge of WIMES standards and client specification requirements.\n\n• Competence in electrical systems, MCCs, motors, control panels, and instrumentation.\n\n• Strong understanding of site management, planning, and reporting.\n\n• Full UK driving licence.\n\nDesirable Qualifications\n\n• Confined space training and EUSR Water Hygiene card.\n\n• Hazardous area (ATEX) installation experience.\n\n• Familiarity with PLCs, SCADA, and process automation.\n\n• SMSTS qualification
