A new opportunity has arisen for a Project Engineer (Electrical) to join a central engineering team within a leading independent power business. This role supports assets across the UK and Ireland, and the base location is flexible—candidates can be located at any operational site or office. Travel to various sites will be necessary and may include extended periods away from the home base.



Role Purpose



The role focuses on the development, construction, and delivery of large-scale capital projects, while also providing technical electrical engineering support to an operational fleet. Key areas of focus include Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Lifetime Extension projects, new builds, and emerging development opportunities.



Occasionally, the successful candidate may be required to deputise for other managerial roles and participate in short-term secondments across the wider organisation.

Key Responsibilities



Reporting to the Head of Engineering, responsibilities include:



Designing, developing, and delivering the engineering strategy within the electrical discipline.

Providing expertise in all areas of electrical engineering, including high voltage (HV) and transmission systems.

Preparing, reviewing, and submitting electrical designs and specifications.

Overseeing project development and implementation, including:



Supplying technical data.

Producing and verifying engineering documentation.

Evaluating tender submissions.

Supporting commissioning activities.



Collaborating with senior project electrical engineers to assess designs, studies, and reports.

Performing works witness testing, attending progress meetings, and monitoring installation quality.

Delivering innovative technical solutions to engineering challenges.

Supporting major plant outages and project works.

Providing input to project reports, tracking, and progress updates.

Overseeing the installation and commissioning of electrical systems in accordance with specifications.

Managing relationships with contractors and service providers, supporting procurement, tenders, and contract execution.

Participating in technical nomination processes and assisting site managers with staff development and competency.

Conducting root cause analysis (RCA) and sharing learnings across sites.

Supporting the quality assurance programme.

Contributing to site investment decision-making.

Ensuring effective management of change processes.

Supporting cross-fleet risk management, particularly project-related risk.

Assisting with recruitment, training, and performance management of engineering staff.

Providing technical oversight and audits of external project and operational resources.

Fully engaging in the planning and execution of capital and operational projects.

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise



Background



Significant experience in a senior electrical engineering role across multiple operational sites, ideally in power infrastructure.

Proven experience in a CCGT operational environment.

Strong track record in Health, Safety, and Environmental management.

Demonstrated ability to build and lead a constructive, challenge-driven team culture.

Experience leading large teams in process-driven environments.

Extensive understanding of engineering, operational, and maintenance management.

Experience in construction environments.

Qualifications



Degree-qualified in engineering or a related discipline (equivalent experience may be considered.

Chartered (CEng) or Incorporated (IEng) status with a recognised engineering institution, or actively working towards.

Will consider Apprenticeship or HNC upwards in a related discipline
