Job DescriptionJob Description

This position serves as the site’s electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME), leading efforts to prevent equipment failures, reduce downtime, and strengthen the Electrical Mechanical Integrity (EMI) program. While the primary emphasis is on electrical systems, the role maintains limited involvement with instrumentation systems to support overall plant operability and cross-functional troubleshooting. The engineer partners closely with maintenance, operations, and reliability teams to support both day-to-day plant needs and long-term asset strategies.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the site Electrical SME with primary ownership of power distribution and electrical reliability systems
  • Lead and manage the Electrical Mechanical Integrity (EMI) program, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement
  • Drive reliability initiatives for substations, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, and plant-wide power distribution systems
  • Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations for electrical failures impacting safety, reliability, and production
  • Provide hands-on technical support during plant upsets, including troubleshooting motors, drives, and power systems
  • Support Management of Change (MOC) processes for electrical system modifications and upgrades
  • Develop and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for electrical equipment
  • Maintain and update electrical engineering standards and specifications in alignment with NFPA, NEC, OSHA, and industry best practices
  • Ensure all electrical work is properly risk-assessed and executed in compliance with site safety policies and hazardous area classifications
  • Provide technical input for capital projects involving electrical infrastructure, including design, specification, and commissioning support
  • Partner with maintenance and operations to improve precision maintenance practices and equipment reliability
  • Provide limited support to instrumentation systems as needed for troubleshooting and system integration (DCS/PLC interface awareness)
  • Reinforce and promote strong electrical safety practices and compliance across the site

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 7+ years of experience in electrical engineering within chemical, petrochemical, or heavy industrial manufacturing environments
  • Strong expertise in electrical power distribution systems, including MCCs, switchgear, substations, and transformers
  • Hands-on experience supporting electrical reliability programs in continuous process plants
  • Experience troubleshooting motors, drives (VFDs), and power system disturbances
  • Working knowledge of hazardous area classifications and electrical design requirements in classified environments
  • Familiarity with DCS and PLC systems (interface-level understanding, not controls-heavy)
  • Experience with reliability methodologies such as RCFA and Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM)
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes and standards (NFPA, NEC, OSHA, API, NETA)
  • Demonstrated ability to support plant operations during upset conditions and drive root cause resolution
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across operations, maintenance, and engineering teams
