A-1 Electrical Contractors, Inc is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Electrical Instructor to lead and support our apprenticeship program. This position plays a key role in training the next of electrical professionals by delivering high-quality instruction aligned with Louisiana’s state licensing and apprenticeship requirements. The instructor will also be responsible for tracking apprentice progress, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring compliance with state and NCCER standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver instruction following the NCCER Electrical Curriculum in accordance with the Louisiana-approved 4-year/144-hours-per-year apprenticeship format.
  • Ensure compliance with the Louisiana Workforce Commission’s rules and standards for Registered Apprenticeship Programs.
  • Teach core competencies required for licensure under the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors, including NEC code, electrical theory, safety, tools, and hands-on labs.
  • Track apprentice attendance, training hours (classroom and OJT), and competency completion as required by the LWC.
  • Collaborate with apprenticeship coordinators and HR to schedule classes, manage materials, and ensure compliance with program requirements.
  • Submit accurate reports, evaluations, and documentation to the state as part of required program oversight.
  • Submit required reports and documentation to state agencies, licensing boards, and internal stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Support apprentices in preparing for state journeyman licensing exams.
  • Ensure all training activities promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Stay up to date on changes to local, state, and electrical codes and licensing requirements.
  • Ability to establish materials/tool lists for classroom and lab exercises.
  • Ability to plan and develop classroom/lab space for hands-on performance evaluations.
  • Solicit vendors for student tutorial sessions/ hands on training (guest speakers).

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of verifiable field experience as a licensed electrician (Louisiana journeyman or Master Electrician )
  • Prior teaching, training, or mentorship experience strongly .
  • Familiarity with NCCER curriculum and the Louisiana electrical apprenticeship system is a plus
  • Ability to deliver instruction to a diverse group of adult learners using practical, real-world examples.
  • Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency for record-keeping and reporting.


Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work evening hours (typically 2-4 evenings per week) during the apprenticeship school year (August-May).
  • OSHA 10/30 certification and/or NCCER Instructor Certification or willingness to obtain.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while instructing or supervising lab activities
  • Able to lift, carry, and move equipment or training materials up to 50 lbs
  • Manual dexterity to demonstrate electrical techniques and handle tools or wiring components
  • Comfortable working on ladders, scaffolding, or platforms as needed during training exercises
  • Vision and hearing adequate for observing apprentices' work and responding to questions or safety concerns
  • Ability to work in a variety of indoor and outdoor training environments, including occasionally warm or dusty conditions
  • Must be able to safely operate and demonstrate electrical tools and testing equipment
  • Occasional bending, kneeling, or climbing during lab setup or instruction
