Position: Electrical Field Test Technician (NETA III, IV, or NICET Equivalent )
Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Travel: ~25% Regional
 

Role Overview
Join our clients Electrical Power Services team as an experienced Electrical Field Test Technician. This position demands safe, efficient installation, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of electrical power distribution equipment across voltage classes. The role includes leadership responsibilities, mentoring, and supervising Level 1 and 2 Trainees and Assistants.
Key Responsibilities

• Travel to customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, and perform start-up and data collection on electrical systems.
• Supervise and mentor Level 1 & 2 NETA Trainees and Assistants; assign and review work for consistency and quality.
• Track project scope and communicate progress with Client and customer management.
• Maintain, test, repair, and replace low, medium, and high-voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, and related equipment.
• Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches, motor control centers, contractor testing, generator controls, and transfer schemes.
• Perform relay calibration, power metering, and test & commission protection and control systems on high-voltage substations.
• Conduct fluid sampling and interpretation (insulated fluids).
• Complete Job Hazard Analyses including arc-flash and shock risk assessments.
• Document test results, prepare field reports, submit timecards, expense, and project reports.
• Participate in emergency on-call rotations.
• Ensure strict compliance with electrical safety regulations and company policies.
• Support sales with technical expertise in electrical testing and maintenance.

Candidate Requirements
Minimum

• 5+ years electrical testing experience.
• Experience working effectively as part of a team and on projects.
• Knowledge of NETA Acceptance and Maintenance Testing Standards.
• Familiarity with NFPA 70E Electrical Safety standards.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical performance issues.
• Ability to travel regionally (~25%).
• Knowledgeable about lockout/tag-out and hazardous energy control.
• Clean driving record and drug-free.

• Current NETA Level II, III, or IV certification or NICET equivalent, or equivalent experience.
• NERC experience is a plus.
• Proven supervisory or mentoring experience with junior technicians.
