We are a mission critical commercial and industrial electrical contractor.We serve data centers as well as other customers across the Valley with installing and repairing electrical systems.
We are currently hiring for a talented Electrical Field Service Engineer!
Role Summary:
The Electrical Field Service Engineer (FSE) is responsible for commissioning, troubleshooting, and supporting the safe operation of mission-critical electrical systems at customer sites. This hybrid technician-engineer role requires advanced electrical knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety and reliability. The FSE works closely with the Technical Writer to execute Methods of Procedure (MOPs), supports emergency response, and ensures all service meets NEC, OSHA, and NFPA 70E standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Field Operations and Troubleshooting
- Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on power distribution equipment (e.g., switchgear, UPS, generators, ATS, PDUs).
- Execute MOPs and energization procedures with precision and discipline.
- Commission systems according to engineered specifications and document all startup testing.
- Analyze failures and determine root causes with corrective action plans.
- Interface with client facility teams to confirm power system integrity and schedule testing and repairs.
- 24/7 Emergency Response
- Maintain 24-hour call-out availability for critical service needs.
- Respond to electrical faults, shutdowns, or customer escalations within required timeframes.
- Lead restoration efforts with composure and technical accuracy under pressure.
- Documentation and MOP Compliance
- Collaborate closely with the Technical Writer to:
- Review MOPs before execution for clarity, feasibility, and accuracy.
- Provide field feedback on document improvements.
- Ensure execution steps are fully followed and documented during field work.
- Submit detailed field service reports, redlines, and test results using company platforms.
- Collaborate closely with the Technical Writer to:
- Safety and Compliance
- Lead by example in enforcing 48 Electrics Safety Policy, PPE use.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and local electrical codes.
- Perform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), arc flash hazard assessments, and maintain awareness of energized systems.
- Participate in safety audits and toolbox talks; escalate safety concerns to the Safety Manager.
- Customer and Project Team Coordination
- Communicate findings, system status, and recommendations to the customer in real time.
- Support the Project Manager with field-based updates and testing reports.
- Coordinate with purchasing for parts, test equipment, and material orders.
- Maintain a professional, responsive demeanor on all client-facing jobs.
Qualifications and Industry Standards:
- Licensing: Active Journeyman Electrician license (or equivalent).
- Education: Associates or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field experience ().
- Certifications: OSHA 30 and NFPA 70E; manufacturer training on switchgear, UPS, or generator systems ().
- Technical Proficiency:
- Skilled in interpreting schematics, single-line diagrams, MOPs, test reports, and load calculations.
- Experience with digital multimeters, megohmmeters, power analyzers, IR cameras, and other diagnostic tools.
- Industry Compliance: Adherence to NEC, IEEE best practices, and U.S. electrical field service protocols.
Work Hours:
- Scheduled field hours and on-call rotation for 24/7 emergency response.
- Available for overtime, weekends, and after-hours jobs as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Lift up to 50 lbs., work from ladders, operate equipment at heights, and function in confined spaces.
- Stand or walk for 10+ hour shifts in active jobsite environments.
- Work in hot, cold, or inclement weather as required.
