Electrical Estimator/Project Manager
McQuaig Electric is seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator/Project Manager to join our growing team. We are looking for a detail-oriented, organized individual with a strong understanding of electrical construction who can accurately estimate projects, prepare competitive proposals, and help us continue to grow profitably.
The ideal candidate has hands-on knowledge of the electrical trade and understands the labor, materials, and planning required to complete electrical projects efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Review electrical plans, specifications, scopes of work, and bid documents
- Perform detailed material and labor takeoffs
- Prepare accurate estimates for commercial, residential, remodel, and service-related projects
- Obtain and review pricing from electrical suppliers and subcontractors
- Prepare professional proposals and bid packages
- Identify potential scope gaps, exclusions, conflicts, and opportunities before submitting bids
- Estimate labor hours based on project conditions and expected production rates
- Track upcoming bids and ensure proposals are completed by required deadlines
- Communicate with general contractors, customers, vendors, project managers, and field personnel as needed
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits when necessary
- Review awarded projects with project management and field teams to ensure a smooth handoff
- Help maintain accurate estimating costs, labor rates, material pricing, and historical job data
- Review completed projects and compare estimated versus actual labor and material costs to improve future estimates
- Assist management in identifying profitable projects and bidding opportunities
Qualifications
- Electrical construction experience strongly
- Previous electrical estimating experience
- Ability to read and understand electrical drawings, specifications, and construction documents
- Strong understanding of electrical materials, equipment, and installation methods
- Knowledge of NEC requirements and common electrical construction practices
- Ability to accurately estimate labor and material requirements
- Strong computer and organizational skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines at the same time
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently
Experience
Experience estimating any of the following is a plus:
- Commercial electrical construction
- Residential new construction and remodels
- Tenant build-outs and renovations
- Electrical service upgrades and panel replacements
- Generator installations
- EV charger installations
- Lighting and lighting controls
- Electrical service and repair work
