JOB DESCRIPTION

The Electrical Estimator reports to the Team Leader / Sponsor and accurately estimates labor, material, sub-contractor, and machinery costs associated with electrical construction on various structures ranging from residential, commercial, and industrial applications, including low-voltage & fire-alarm systems.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide accurate estimates of costs and quantities of material, machinery, buyouts, and labor to complete electrical construction projects.
  2. Review all bid proposal documents, including but not limited to project plans, specifications, and drawings, to determine the scope of work and required contents of the estimate.
  3. Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
  4. Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, engineers, and subcontractors.
  5. Participate in bid presentations and submittal of qualification information to the client.
  6. Provide project-specific conceptual and budgetary information detail.
  7. Develop and maintain working relationships with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors.

8. Ability to analyze electrical drawings and specifications, mechanical drawings, architectural drawings, structural drawings, landscape drawings, and civil drawings.

9. Perform project takeoffs, including completing standard estimating forms, filling in project dimensions, sequence of operations, number of units, and other information.

10. Estimate and budget for factors that may increase overall costs, including shipping delays, weather, and waste disposal.

11. Participate in pre-bid job site inspections and / or job walks.

  1. Ability to accurately and efficiently input data into a computer and detect/correct entry errors before submitting bid to management/client.
  2. Other duties as assigned.

  1. Represent the company in a professional manner to clients, vendors, and other external institutions.
  2. Maintain confidentiality of company fiscal and personnel related information.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Knowledge of electrical theory and practice, engineering/design concepts, estimating, and negotiating.
  2. Knowledge of NEC, FLS, and FAC regulations.
  3. Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and margin/cost control principles.
  4. Knowledge of computer programs including (Outlook, Excel, Word, & Accubid), electrical calculations, estimate forms, filing, clerical methods, and policies/procedures used within the construction industry.
  5. Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Ability to deal courteously and efficiently with vendors and office staff.
  7. Ability to work and meet deadlines while simultaneously managing several projects.
  8. Ability to adhere to well defined procedures.
  9. Ability to participate in department meetings.
  10. Ability to maintain integrity, accountability, credibility, and high ethical standards.
  11. Skills normally acquired through a combination and completion of a bachelors degree in engineering/construction management and/or five years of experience in an electrical construction estimating position.
  12. Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule and may involve overtime at the discretion and approval of a direct supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working conditions are normal for an office or non-manual based environment with the exception of lifting/moving plan rolls weighing up to 50lbs.
