Job Summary
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the design and release of electrical control panel documentation for data-center cooling equipment. This role is responsible for creating complete, manufacturing-ready electrical drawing packages for control panels utilizing PLCs, VFDs, relays, and circuit protection devices. The engineer will also generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and support factory wiring verification and I/O checkout during equipment build and testing.
This position works closely with controls, mechanical, manufacturing, and test teams to ensure designs are buildable, testable, and aligned with design intent.
Key Responsibilities
- Create complete electrical drawing packages for packaged HVAC equipment, including:
- Power distribution and single-line diagrams
- Control schematics for compressors, pumps, fans, heaters, and auxiliaries
- PLC hardware, rack, and I/O drawings
- VFD and motor control wiring diagrams
- Panel layouts, terminal plans, and field wiring diagrams
- Select and apply electrical components appropriate for packaged HVAC systems, including:
- PLCs, HMISs, VFDs, relays, contactors, circuit breakers, fuses, control transformers, and power supplies
- Develop and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) tied directly to released drawing packages.
- Coordinate with controls engineers to ensure drawings reflect sequence of operation and control intent.
- Support manufacturing and procurement by answering questions, resolving discrepancies, and incorporating redlines and as-built changes.
- Assist with panel wiring checks, point-to-point verification, and PLC I/O checkout during factory build and End Of Line Testing (EOL).
- Support troubleshooting efforts during equipment testing to validate electrical design and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards and codes, including NEC, NFPA 79, and UL 508A.
- Follow change management and documentation control processes to ensure traceability of released equipment.
Requirements:
Required Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
- 3+ years’ experience designing electrical control panels for industrial equipment.
- Strong understanding of Motor controls using contactors and VFDs.
- Experience with PLC-based control systems and discrete/analog I/O architectures.
- Proficiency with electrical CAD tools (SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or equivalent).
- Experience creating BOMs and manufacturing ready electrical documentation.
- Working knowledge of panel wiring practices and I/O checkout procedures.
Qualifications
- Experience with thermal management equipment such as chillers, AHUs, heat pumps, or process cooling skids.
- UL 508A control panel design experience.
- Familiarity working in a factory build-and-test environment.
- Experience supporting test and startup activities.
