Electrical Engineer - Sustaining

Advanced Input Systems (AIS) designs and manufactures Human Machine eXperience (HMX) products across a wide range of markets including medical, industrial, and immersive technologies. Were seeking a Sustaining Electrical Engineer to support our ongoing product success by supporting sustaining electrical design and production test system development and support.
This role blends classic sustaining responsibilities, such as schematic capture updates and component lifecycle management, with test hardware/software design and ongoing production test support. Youll contribute to cross-functional teams driving improvements across legacy and new products alike.
Key Responsibilities:
- Schematic Capture & Design:
- Maintain and update analog/digital electrical schematics using CAD tools (e.g., OrCAD, Circuit Studio, Cadence Allegro)
- Investigate component obsolescence (EOL) and drive alternate sourcing/redesign efforts
- Component Library & BOM Support:
- Maintain electrical component library (symbols, footprints, attributes)
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of part metadata to streamline BOM and procurement processes
- Test PCBA Development:
- Design test-specific PCBAs for use in production test stations
- Define and capture layout requirements, specify harnesses, panels, and interconnects
- Production Test System Support:
- Support, maintain, and troubleshoot automated test systems used in manufacturing
- Develop or update test software (LabVIEW, Visual Basic, PLC) and implement test automation enhancements
- Create and maintain test system documentation, including calibration and maintenance procedures
- Cross-Functional Sustaining Support:
- Partner with engineering, quality, and operations teams to resolve production test issues and drive yield/cost improvements
- Support root cause investigations (RCCA), Corrective/Preventive Actions (CAPA), and failure analysis
- Concurrent Engineering:
- Collaborate on cross-functional teams to support NPI and production transfer efforts from an electrical/test perspective
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent)
- 3+ years of experience in electronics design and test development
- Proficient in schematic capture and electrical CAD tools
- Experience with LabVIEW and/orVisual Basic* for production test software development
- Strong understanding of PCB layout considerations and test fixture requirements
- Comfortable debugging at the component level using standard TMDE (e.g., DMM, oscilloscope)
- Familiarity with protocols such as USB, I2C, SPI, RS232/485, CANbus
- Strong collaboration and communication skills

- Experience supporting or designing automated production test systems
- Exposure to IPC standards, DFM/DFA best practices, and sustaining engineering workflows
- Other programming support, such as Python and embedded C.
- Understanding of industrial automation interfaces including PLC integration
