Electrical Engineer in Saint Louis

The Electrical Engineer will support the design and development of controlled environment rooms, including cold rooms, temperature- and humidity-controlled chambers, and other specialized spaces. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in both the technical design and execution of custom-engineered environmental rooms across various industries, ensuring systems perform reliably, efficiently, and meet all applicable requirements. This is a hands-on, onsite position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the electrical and automation design of custom temperature- and humidity-controlled rooms and chambers.
- Design and specify electrical power distribution, control panels, and wiring systems tailored to each application.
- Collaborate on mechanical aspects of temperature- and humidity-controlled rooms and chambers to ensure integrated system performance.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineering team to perform load calculations, equipment sizing, and system layouts based on customer requirements.
- Coordinate closely with mechanical and control teams to ensure integrated system performance.
- Participate in the production of, review and approval of technical drawings, submittals, and equipment specification.
- Conduct field surveys, assist with installation reviews, and participate in system commissioning.
- Manage and mentor a small team of technicians or junior engineers.
- Ensure all designs meet relevant codes, standards, and industry best practices.
- Maintain accurate, detailed documentation, including design reports, calculations, and revision logs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- 5-10 years of electrical engineering experience, ideally in refrigeration systems, wiring, PLCs and control panel designs.
- Proficiency with point-to-point wiring diagrams, IEEE standards and design tools (SkyCAD, SolidWorks, AutoCAD or Revit).
- Strong understanding of HVAC and refrigeration systems and their electrical integration.
- Experience with low-voltage control systems and environmental room electrical design.
- Ability to manage small teams and contribute to project execution from concept through completion.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
- Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and related codes.
- 10-15% travel as required
Experience
- Hands-on knowledge with switchgear, panels, and backup power solutions.
- Experience with HVAC/refrigeration control systems and integration.
- Familiarity with environmental rooms used in life sciences, food storage, research or agriculture.
- Field or commissioning experience is highly valued.
