We have an immediate opportunity for an Electrical Engineer which has thorough knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods working with Transmission and Distribution engineering principles. This position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for gathering and evaluating line data of transmission, sub-transmission, distribution systems, transformer test data, and generator data. Utilizing Model systems on appropriate software tool, such as CAPE.
  • Experience performing short circuit studies while protecting coordinated studies necessary for completing relay settings, perform relay settings, prepare protection summary and coordinating relay settings with neighboring utilities and other authorities required assignments meeting WECC compliance.
  • Support Test technicians in-servicing or commissioning relay settings. Support and communicate with Test technician for making revisions/changes to relay settings as required.
  • Experience performing system studies provide protection requirements by design.
  • Responsible for DER integration studies and automation scheme evaluations.
  • Review relay operations and field auto-recloser settings via ASPEN relay database.
  • Responsible for designing protective relay systems to ensure the safety and reliability of the grid by reviewing AC/DC/Logic drawings.
  • Will be responsible for reviewing and signing off one-line, elementary logic diagrams and work with all other engineers supporting this department.
  • Develop and peer-reviewed protective relay setting for systems ranging from 12kV to 765kV, demonstrating deep technical knowledge across a wide voltage spectrum.
  • Previously led and executed short circuit studies and designed step distance and pilot protection schemes for 44-100kV lines, ensuring system reliability and compliance with FAC-008/NERC/IEEE/ICE/ANSI standards.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s in electrical engineering.
  • Five plus years of engineering experience related to Transmission and Distribution.
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in Power Systems desired not required.
  • PE desired, not required.
  • Working knowledge of transmission systems operation (line-and-bus arrangements, reclosing practices).
  • Knowledge of digital logic design principles (logic, gates, latches) and experience in developing logic diagrams.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols (DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850) and SCADA systems
  • Experience with CAPE macro development and CYME scripting.
  • Experience and knowledge of System One-Line Diagram and relay and AC and DC Schematics as well as AC and DC wiring standards.
  • Experience in developing relay settings and familiarity with Relay setting software (GE EnerVista UR Setup, SEL AcSELerator).
  • Ability and experience to interpret/apply/design electrical one-line, elementary, protection logic diagrams.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing logic diagrams, programming relay setting and preparing setting document for Test technician and support them for in-serving relays for bulk power.
  • Proven experience with Computer Aided protection Engineering Software (CAPE), CYME, ASPEN relay database.
  • Experience interpreting/applying, designing electrical one-line elementary, protection logic diagrams.
  • Experience in performing system studies, symmetrical component analysis, fault calculation, and set Electromechanical Relays, SEL and GE microprocessor relays using accelerator and URPC software.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, and Project.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective resource and project planning, decision making and ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
