Job Description:
· This position is in the Aircraft Carrier Design and Systems Engineering Directorate (SEA 05V) at Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA).
· This position will be at the Washington Navy Yard.
· The incumbent serves as a Propulsion Systems Engineer directly supporting the Nimitz (CVN68) and Ford (CVN78) Class Aircraft Carrier Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and Electrical System Engineering Manager.
· The candidate will serve as a System Engineer within the SEA 05V Electrical Group.
· Occasional travel may be expected in this position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide technical support and assess risk for technical decisions for Nimitz (CVN 68) and Ford (CVN 78) Class Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and System Engineering Manager (SEM)
• Provide engineering assessment, research, and problem resolution utilizing Nimitz (CVN 68) and/or Ford (CVN 78) operational experience.
• Provide responses to requests for technical assistance or adjudication received via letter, Departure from Specification (DFS), Liaison Action Request (LAR), Steam Plant Action Request (SPAR), Availability Work Package (AWP) Change Request
• Participate and coordinate technical approval letters for Ship Alteration (ShipAlts) and Technical Assessment Team (TAT) reviews for Ship Change Documents (SCDs)
• Review Technical Feedback Reports (TFBRs) for Planned Maintenance System (PMS) changes requiring Designated Technical Representative (DTR) review
• Coordinate with Engineering Agents, Technical Authorities, TYCOM, PMS 312, PMS 378, SUPSHIP Newport News, Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY), Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS), Ship Repair Facility (SRF), & other activities to resolve technical matters
• Review technical data packages, drawings, reports, logistics products, training, etc. and provide technical recommendations
• Develop formal presentations to brief senior officials.
• Review ship, procurement, and systems specifications and submit proposals for changes
Required Skill and Experience:
• Engineering degree, prefer Mechanical, Marine, Electrical, Nuclear or Systems engineering from an accredited university
• 3-10 years’ professional work experience,
• Experience with the CVN 68 or CVN 78 Class Electrical Plants
• Experience with US Navy vessels (preferably nuclear-powered ships)
• Good technical writing and communication skills
• An active Secret Security Clearance and U.S. Citizenship
Desired
o Worked with or at a shipyard, Naval Surface/Undersea Warfare Center (NSWC/NUWC), Supervisor of Shipbuilding Command (SUPSHIP), Regional Maintenance Center (RMC), and/or Type Commander (TYCOM) supporting construction, operation, maintenance, modernization, and/or repair of shipboard electrical systems
o Experience working with technical authority (e.g. NAVSEA 05 and 08)
o Experience working with program managers (e.g. PEO Carriers, PMS 312, PMS 378, etc.) in an engineering role
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s in Engineering Discipline - desired Mechanical, Marine, Electrical, Nuclear or Systems engineering
· A U.S citizen.
· A secret security clearance.
