Electrical Engineer (Substation & IED Integration)
Location: Jackson, MI (Travel role – per diem provided)
Contract: 12-month contract with potential for extension
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the design, integration, and testing of intelligent electrical devices used in electric substations and on transmission and distribution lines. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands-on work and thrives in a technical, team-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineer and integrate hardware and software for programmable and configurable devices used in electric substations and field applications
- Support detailed design efforts for multiple projects based on CAD drawings developed by the I&C team
- Perform hands-on system prototyping, testing, and device integration in a lab environment
- Configure, connect, and test a wide range of intelligent electrical devices (IEDs), including:

- Programmable automation controllers
- Network and communications devices
- Remote Terminal Units (RTUs)
- Protective relays, control relays, and meters
- Transformer monitors, controllers, and transducers
- Collaborate closely with engineers, technicians, and stakeholders across varying technical skill levels
Required & Desired Qualifications
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word
- Experience working with programmable/configurable devices such as RTUs, regulator controls, and recloser controls ()
- Familiarity with IEC 61131 programming environments ()
- Experience with DNP 3.0 protocol (serial and IP) ()
- Programming experience in VB.NET or another high-level ()
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
