Electrical Engineer in EC1

Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and technically capable Electrical Engineer to join our growing M&E Engineering team supporting the delivery of the HS2 programme. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, coordination, review, and delivery of electrical engineering systems across major rail and infrastructure projects. \nWorking within a multidisciplinary MEICA team, you will contribute to the development of safe, efficient, and compliant electrical solutions from concept design through construction, testing, commissioning, and handover.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to work on one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects while developing your technical and professional expertise.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nElectrical Design & Engineering\n\nProduce and review electrical engineering designs for rail and infrastructure projects in accordance with project requirements.\nDevelop electrical calculations, specifications, reports, drawings, and technical documentation.\nDesign and coordinate systems including: \nLV power distribution systems\nSmall power installations\nInternal and external lighting systems\nEmergency lighting systems\nEarthing and bonding systems\nStandby power and UPS systems\nCable containment and routing\nFire alarm and life safety interfaces\nBuilding services electrical installations\nAssist with load assessments, fault level studies, cable sizing, and protection coordination.\n\nDesign Coordination\n\nCoordinate electrical designs with mechanical, civil, structural, architectural, and systems engineering disciplines.\nParticipate in design reviews, multidisciplinary workshops, and technical meetings.\nSupport BIM and digital engineering processes to ensure coordinated and clash-free designs.\nReview supplier and subcontractor technical submissions.\n\nProject Delivery\n\nSupport project teams throughout all design and construction phases.\nRespond to technical queries and provide engineering support to site teams.\nMonitor progress against design programmes and project milestones.\nAssist in managing design changes and ensuring accurate documentation control.\n\nCompliance & Assurance\n\nEnsure all designs comply with: \nHS2 Technical Standards\nBS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations)\nRelevant British and European Standards\nBuilding Regulations\nCDM Regulations 2015\nClient specifications and project requirements\nParticipate in design assurance processes including technical reviews and approvals.\nContribute to safety-in-design and risk management activities.\n\nTesting & Commissioning Support\n\nSupport testing and commissioning activities for electrical systems.\nReview commissioning documentation and test results.\nAssist with system integration, fault finding, and handover activities.\nSupport the preparation of operation and maintenance documentation.\n\nSkills, Knowledge & Experience\n\nEssential\n\nDegree or HND/HNC in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.\nExperience in electrical engineering design within infrastructure, rail, construction, or building services environments.\nKnowledge of electrical distribution systems and building services installations.\nFamiliarity with BS 7671 and relevant industry standards.\nAbility to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.\nProficiency in Microsoft Office applications.\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.\nExcellent communication and teamwork abilities.\n\nDesirable\n\nExperience working on rail, transportation, tunnelling, or major infrastructure projects.\nKnowledge of HS2, Network Rail, or London Underground standards.\nExperience using electrical design software such as: \nAmtech/Trimble ProDesign\nETAP\nDialux\nRelux\nAutoCAD\nRevit MEP\nUnderstanding of BIM Level 2 and digital engineering processes.\nMembership of a relevant professional institution (IET or equivalent).\nWorking towards Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.\n\nKey Competencies\n\nElectrical Engineering Design\nTechnical Problem Solving\nAttention to Detail\nDesign Coordination\nSafety and Compliance Awareness\nCommunication Skills\nStakeholder Engagement\nTime Management\nTeam Collaboration\nContinuous Improvement\n\nHealth, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities\n\nComply with all company, client, and statutory health, safety, and environmental requirements.\nSupport a positive safety culture and actively promote safe systems of work.\nIdentify and report hazards, risks, and opportunities for improvement.\nContribute to the delivery of safe-by-design engineering solutions.\n\nPerformance Measures\n\nDelivery of design outputs to agreed quality, programme, and budget.\nCompliance with project standards and technical requirements.\nSuccessful completion of design assurance reviews.\nEffective management of technical queries and design changes.\nContribution to project milestones and commissioning activities.\nPositive stakeholder and client feedback
