Position Summary: The Controls Design Engineer responsibilities include design of electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic controls systems using Beckhoff PC's to control servo motors and VFD's.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

The Controls Design Engineer will be responsible for delivering engineering results that include the following:

  • Project management of the machine (on time, on budget) from inception to delivery while being involved and assisting with troubleshooting of issues.
  • Design and detail the control schematics and BOM's
  • Program the PLC and computers for a given machine project.
  • Size and specify servo systems.
  • Provide troubleshooting of programmed devices, including the ability to perform programming and debugging functions for PLC or PC based devices while also developing company protocols for such.
  • As appropriate, design, layout, assemble and test electrical control panels and wiring for machine and automation systems, may also provide guidance to others in assembly work
  • Follow regulatory standards in the design of compliant electrical systems

  3. Gain Proficiency in the use of company IT systems
  4. Gain and apply basic knowledge of the honing process; application and troubleshooting
  5. Gain basic knowledge to understand structure and practices for all company departments with which the position is expected to interact


Physical/Visual Activities or Demands: Physical/visual activities or demands that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, feel, talk or hear.
  2. The employee must exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  3. Specific vision abilities required by this job include clarity of vision at 20 feet or more as well as 20 inches or less.


Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions: Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

Good working conditions with occasional exposure to some elements that make conditions less desirable than usually found in an office.


POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Requires broad knowledge of an engineering discipline equivalent to a Bachelor's degree.

Experience: Minimum of five years of related experience required to qualify for the position. Expect seven to ten years of overall experience in the discipline to become proficient in the requirements of the position.

Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

  • CRM, ERP, CAD/CAM Software experience and knowledge
  • C# and C++ real time programming experience
  • PLC and HMI programming experience (Beckhoff or Siemens )
  • Electrical panel layout experience
  • 2D CAD experience - Wiring diagrams
  • Knowledge of NFPA 79, CE Machinery Directive
