The position is mainly workshop-based in Aberdeen, with periodic offshore and rig assignments, plus occasional international travel for installation, commissioning, and service work.

This is a practical, hands-on role focused on electrical, electronic, and instrumentation systems associated with complex industrial equipment. You’ll be involved in build, upgrade, fault-finding, and commissioning tasks, ensuring systems are installed and maintained to required technical and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out installation and commissioning of PLC-driven control systems on specialist equipment
  • Set up, test, and calibrate instrumentation such as sensors, transmitters, and flow measurement devices
  • Complete electrical and instrumentation installation work across workshop and field scopes
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain electrical, electronic, and control systems both on-site and offshore when required
  • Perform hazardous area inspections in line with certification and regulatory requirements
  • Fault-find across electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanically integrated systems
  • Read and interpret wiring schematics, termination details, loop drawings, and fluid power diagrams
  • Work safely with low and high voltage single-phase and three-phase systems, applying correct isolation procedures
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, drives, and automated control assemblies in operational environments (experience with drive systems is an advantage)
  • Follow and promote safe working practices and environmental compliance at all times
  • Support work scopes across workshop, offshore, quayside, and project locations, including overseas assignments where needed
  • Complete service reports, test records, and technical documentation accurately
  • Assist with identifying replacement components and sourcing parts when required

Education & Experience

  • Formal training in electrical or electronic engineering through vocational qualification or technical diploma (or equivalent experience)
  • Several years’ practical experience in an electrical, electronic, or instrumentation role — broader experience welcomed
  • Valid CompEx certification (EX01–EX04) is required
  • Awareness of hazardous area standards and compliance frameworks such as ATEX or IECEx is beneficial
  • Experience using diagnostic and configuration software for control and instrumentation systems is advantageous

Desirable Experience

  • Forklift certification
  • Experience with rigging and lifting operations

Role-Specific Knowledge & Skills

  • Comfortable using standard IT and reporting tools
  • Able to produce clear technical notes and job reports
  • Capable of testing and verifying industrial equipment performance
  • Strong practical fault-finding mindset
  • Works well both independently and within a team setting
