Electrical Designer

Midlothian, VA | Direct Hire | $60,000+ DOE

We are hiring on behalf of our client in Midlothian, VA for an Electrical Designer. This is a direct hire position offering a competitive salary of $60,000 per year (DOE). The ideal candidate will have strong experience in industrial electrical design, including power distribution, controls, and instrumentation systems.

Position Overview

The Electrical Designer will be responsible for developing and executing detailed electrical designs for industrial projects. This role involves working closely with engineers, project managers, and clients to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective electrical solutions in compliance with company and client standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform electrical design duties, including power distribution, machine control design, and instrumentation/control systems.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to develop practical and compliant design solutions.
• Develop electrical power, controls, and instrumentation concepts through final documentation, ensuring adherence to company and client standards.
• Prepare construction cost estimates, material lists, and obtain vendor quotations for design components.
• Assist in the development of project schedules, specifications, and design concepts.
• Perform fieldwork and technical research to support project needs.
• Support constructability reviews and understand all phases of field construction.
• Maintain accurate project design files, including vendor documentation and calculation sheets.
• Ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality of all deliverables within assigned responsibilities.
• Track and maintain project budgets and schedules for multiple concurrent design activities.
• Collaborate with engineers and project managers to allocate department resources effectively.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

• Solid understanding of the heavy industrial field.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD for electrical design.
• Working knowledge of NEC and related NFPA code requirements, with the ability to apply them effectively in designs.
• Experience with power distribution, controls, and instrumentation systems (including conduit sizing, loop diagrams, and signal/communication integrations).
• Ability to read and interpret power and motor control circuits.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality design work.

:

• Associate’s degree in Electrical Design, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• 3D CAD or Bentley MicroStation experience.
• Experience in industrial chemical processing environments.
• Knowledge of grounding requirements and their practical applications in electrical and instrumentation systems.
• Familiarity with hazardous area classifications, including Class I and Class II locations.
• Experience with construction and design-hour cost estimating.
