About the Role\n\nBlueprint Recruitment are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer / Technical Manager to join a growing engineering team.\n\nThis is a key position responsible for leading the design, technical assurance, and delivery of electrical infrastructure projects across utility and private networks.\n\nThe successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring designs meet industry standards, client requirements, and regulatory compliance, while providing technical leadership across multiple projects.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n * Lead the design and development of electrical systems (typically 11kV–132kV)\n\n * Produce and review detailed design packages including:\n\n * Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)\n\n * Protection and control schematics\n\n * Cable calculations and layouts\n\n * Earthing studies and design\n\n * Provide technical oversight and approval of designs\n\n * Act as the main technical interface with clients, network operators, and third-party stakeholders\n\n * Ensure compliance with relevant standards (ENA, BS, IEC, etc.)\n\n * Support project delivery teams with technical guidance and problem-solving\n\n * Mentor and develop junior engineers within the team\n\n * Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and standards\n\nRequirements\n\n * Proven experience in electrical design within the UK power sector\n\n * Strong background working on local distribution networks\n\n * Previous experience working for an Independent Connection Provider (ICP)\n\n * In-depth knowledge of UK grid connection processes and standards\n\n * Familiarity with protection systems, substations, and distribution networks\n\n * Experience using design tools such as AutoCAD, Amtech, ETAP, or similar\n\n * Strong understanding of earthing design and electrical calculations\n\n * Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills\n\nDesirable\n\n * Experience in a technical leadership or managerial role\n\n * Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)\n\n * Knowledge of G81 standards and network operator-specific requirements\n\n * Experience across renewable or infrastructure projects
