Electrical Engineer
Job Summary
The Electrical Engineer plays a key role in the development and implementation of innovative technologies for air compressor products. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this position provides technical leadership and engineering support for electrical components and systems. The role works closely with Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to design, develop, and launch new products for the global compressor market while ensuring strong performance, reliability, and compliance. This position requires strong problem-solving ability, technical depth, and the ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design electrical components, assemblies, and products for air compressor applications.
- Perform complex engineering calculations to validate designs.
- Develop and execute test protocols for electro-mechanical design validation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable UL, ETL, and CSA standards.
- Create, maintain, and communicate project schedules and status updates to internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop electrical schematics and documentation to support assembly, troubleshooting, and production.
- Partner with cross-functional teams and external vendors to improve existing products and develop new ones.
- Support product improvement, cost reduction, and new product development initiatives.
- Conduct failure analysis on electronic and unit-level assemblies using standard laboratory equipment.
- Prepare written reports summarizing failure analysis findings and recommended corrective actions.
- Support product qualification, system integration, and manufacturing implementation of new designs.
- Work with manufacturing teams and third-party agencies to ensure products meet current regulatory requirements.
Core Competencies
- Strong knowledge of electric motors, including single-phase and three-phase induction motors, universal motors, PMDC motors, and brushless DC motors.
- Experience designing motor control systems that safely and efficiently start and stop electric motors while promoting reliability and durability.
- Ability to create and interpret electrical schematics and wiring drawings.
- Strong testing and validation experience with a focus on product reliability.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements, including UL 1450 and CSA C22.2 No. 68.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across internal teams and external vendors.
- Hands-on approach with strong mechanical intuition.
- Strong creativity, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work under deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and follow safety and security practices.
- Reliable attendance and flexibility to work additional hours when needed to meet deadlines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
- Minimum of 7 years of electrical engineering experience in electric motors and motor controls, preferably with air compressors, power tools, or similar electromechanical products.
- Experience with project management and strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows-based software.
- Experience with new product development processes such as Stage Gate or milestone-based development.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment and launching new product designs into production.
- Experience in product improvement and cost reduction projects.
- Knowledge of compliance standards and the ability to design and test products to meet those standards.
- Experience with battery and battery charging systems.
- Ability to conduct and document failure analysis effectively.
- System integration knowledge required.
- Experience with PCB layout is . EMC/EMI experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of ASME pressure vessels is a plus.
- Broad understanding of electromechanical consumer product design, project management, product qualification, quality systems, engineering systems, manufacturing processes, and standards compliance.
