Contract Electrical Design Engineer\n\nCambridge\n\nUp to £55/hr Outside IR35\n\nWe are working with an innovative engineering business developing advanced industrial systems used in high-performance manufacturing environments. Their technology helps customers reduce energy consumption, improve process reliability and introduce cutting-edge production methods across sectors including food & beverage and advanced composites.\n\nDue to continued growth and new product development, they are looking for a contract Electrical Design Engineer to support the team developing next- products.\n\nThe Role: Electrical Design Engineer\n\n * This is a broad and hands-on engineering role combining electrical design, problem-solving, system development and customer interaction.\n\n * You’ll be involved throughout the full project lifecycle from concept and panel design through to build support, fault finding, commissioning and ongoing product improvement.\n\nKey responsibilities include: Electrical Design Engineer\n\n * Designing electrical control systems and control panels for industrial equipment\n\n * Producing electrical schematics, documentation and revision-controlled design packs\n\n * Supporting the development of next- products & systems\n\n * Working closely with production, suppliers and subcontract manufacturers during system builds\n\n * Diagnosing faults and supporting existing systems in the field\n\n * Assisting with commissioning activities including FAT and SAT\n\n * Collaborating with customers, suppliers and internal engineering teams to deliver robust technical solutions\n\n * Supporting and mentoring junior engineers where appropriate\n\nWhat We’re Looking For: Electrical Design Engineer\n\n * We’re looking for engineers who combine solid electrical design capability with a practical, solutions-focused approach.\n\nYou should have experience in several of the following areas:\n\n * Degree, Apprenticeship, HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Electronic Engineering\n\n * Good industry experience in electrical systems and control panel design\n\n * Experience designing industrial electrical systems to IEC (phone number removed)\n\n * Understanding of machinery safety and safety circuit design (ISO 13849)\n\n * Passion for innovation and creativity, challenging the status-quo to drive new product development\n\n * Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills\n\n * Good documentation, revision control and technical communication skills\n\n * Comfortable working directly with customers, suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams\n\n * Good working knowledge of Electrical design software – EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, WSCAD etc\n\n * Understanding of PLC/HMI development and troubleshooting ideal
