Job Summary

We are seeking an Engineering Associate II to support electrical transmission and substation capital improvement projects. Working under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer, you will develop engineering designs, prepare project scopes, perform technical analyses, create cost estimates, and support the planning and execution of high-voltage transmission and substation projects. This role is ideal for engineers with experience in electrical substation design, AutoCAD, and transmission systems who thrive in a collaborative, safety-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop engineering designs, conceptual layouts, one-line diagrams, and project documentation for electrical transmission and substation projects.
  • Prepare project scopes of work, engineering reports, cost estimates, and technical specifications.
  • Create and modify engineering drawings using AutoCAD and Bluebeam Revu.
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, and field teams to support project planning and execution.
  • Conduct engineering studies, calculations, inspections, field investigations, and performance testing.
  • Analyze engineering data and recommend practical solutions to technical challenges.
  • Coordinate project reviews, schedules, and implementation plans with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support engineering contracts and serve as the owner's representative for outside engineering services when required.
  • Prepare technical reports, schematics, diagrams, material lists, and requisitions.
  • Travel independently to substations, power plants, and other LCRA facilities for field assessments and project support.
  • Ensure engineering work complies with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and company procedures.
  • Apply project management principles to support multiple engineering projects simultaneously.
  • Promote and maintain LCRA's strong commitment to workplace safety.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Engineering Physics, Mathematical Science, Physical Science, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 1 year of engineering experience following completion of a bachelor's degree.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.

Qualifications

  • Experience with electrical substation design and high-voltage transmission systems.
  • Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Knowledge of project cost estimating, scope development, and engineering project management.
  • Experience working with utility, power , or electrical infrastructure projects.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Understanding of engineering principles, industry standards, and applicable codes.
  • Experience developing engineering scopes, estimates, and project documentation.
  • Ability to analyze engineering problems and recommend effective solutions.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Work Environment

  • Combination of office, construction, industrial, and field environments.
  • Regular travel to substations, power plants, and other LCRA facilities.
  • Exposure to energized high-voltage electrical equipment, industrial environments, and varying weather conditions.
  • Occasional climbing, field inspections, confined space entry, and work at elevated heights.
