Electrical Controls Engineer



Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 (DOE) plus annual discretionary performance bonus, up to £3,000

Location: Wolverhampton



Hours of work: 40 hours per week, working Mon–Thurs 8:30am – 4:30pm and Fri 8:30am – 1:00pm (flexibility available)

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking engineering business, working on a variety of control systems projects involving Siemens PLCs, E‑Plan design, LabVIEW development, and electro‑mechanical upgrades.



This job would be a great fit for someone who has previously worked as an Electrical Controls Technician, Controls Engineer, Control Systems Engineer, Automation Engineer, Electrical Automation Engineer, PLC Engineer, Junior Controls Engineer, Junior Automation Engineer, Electrical Design & Controls Engineer, Electrical Systems Engineer, PLC Technician, PLC Programmer, Process Controls Engineer, Machine Controls Engineer or Industrial Controls Engineer.



The Role:



Develop and modify software using LabVIEW and Siemens platforms.

Create new PLC and HMI programs (S7‑1500, S7‑1200, WinCC Unified)

Produce electrical CAD drawings in E‑Plan (2D panel layouts, multi‑line diagrams, part specification)

Design schematics for control cabinets and field installations

Fault-find on existing electro‑mechanical systems

Upgrade and integrate new controls into existing systems

Commission and test new machines — including your own software

Support sales proposals and assist with technical bids

Prepare manufacturing designs and liaise with external suppliers

Supervise electrical technicians and oversee electrical build projects

Manage electrical sub‑contractors on design & build contracts

Travel to customer sites around the UK (with occasional overnight stays)

What we’re looking for:



We welcome applications from both experienced Controls Engineers and those at a junior level who are keen to grow.



You will previously have worked as an Electrical Controls Technician, Controls Engineer, Control Systems Engineer, Automation Engineer, Electrical Automation Engineer, PLC Engineer, Junior Controls Engineer, Junior Automation Engineer, Electrical Design & Controls Engineer, Electrical Systems Engineer, PLC Technician, PLC Programmer, Process Controls Engineer, Machine Controls Engineer or Industrial Controls Engineer.



You will have experience/ knowledge of:



Siemens PLC programming (TIA Portal, WinCC)

Siemens Safety PLC

Siemens Drives (G120/S120) or Control Techniques (M700)

Electrical CAD - using E‑Plan

LabVIEW

Machinery Safety Regulations (UK) & EU Machinery Directive

Along with:



Strong communication skills; being methodical and detail‑focused

A full UK Driving Licence
