About the Company My client is a leading European engineering and construction contractor with an established track record delivering large-scale, complex projects across the data centre and mission-critical sectors.
With a strong pipeline of major projects across Europe and the Nordics, the business is continuing to expand its project delivery teams and is looking for an experienced EHS Lead to take responsibility for environmental, health and safety performance on a major data centre development in Västerås, Sweden.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced EHS professional to join a high-profile project and play a key role in maintaining the highest standards across a large-scale construction environment.
The Role As EHS Lead, you will take overall responsibility for the implementation, management and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health & Safety standards across the project.
You will work closely with the Project Director, construction management team, subcontractors and client representatives to ensure the project is delivered safely, compliantly and in accordance with both Swedish legislation and project-specific requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the EHS function across the project, providing strategic and operational leadership.
- Develop, implement and maintain the project's EHS management systems and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with Swedish health, safety and environmental legislation.
- Provide visible EHS leadership across the construction site.
- Work closely with project management, engineering, construction and commissioning teams.
- Manage and develop the site EHS team.
- Coordinate EHS activities across multiple contractors and subcontractors.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews.
- Monitor project performance against EHS KPIs and establish improvement initiatives.
- Lead investigations into incidents, near misses and non-conformances.
- Ensure appropriate corrective and preventative actions are implemented.
- Review RAMS, permits, risk assessments and other project safety documentation.
- Support toolbox talks, safety briefings and behavioural safety initiatives.
- Promote a proactive safety culture across the project.
- Liaise with the client, consultants, authorities and other key stakeholders on EHS matters.
- Ensure environmental requirements are effectively managed throughout construction.
- Provide regular EHS reporting to senior project leadership.
Requirements The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Significant experience working in an EHS/HSE leadership position within major construction projects.
- Previous experience within data centres, mission-critical, industrial, pharmaceutical, semiconductor or similarly complex environments.
- Strong knowledge of construction health and safety practices.
- Experience managing EHS teams and subcontractor environments.
- Good understanding of risk management, incident investigation and audit processes.
- Experience working on large-scale MEP-intensive construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of EHS legislation and compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The confidence to operate at both site and senior management level.
- Relevant EHS qualifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent.
- A strong track record of delivering projects with high safety standards.
Swedish EHS experience or knowledge of Swedish regulations would be highly advantageous.
