Position Overview
The Director of Logistics and Supply Chain is a strategic leadership role responsible for end-to-end logistics operations across SIMCO’s U.S. network of calibration laboratories. This individual will oversee fleet and logistics management, including lab-to-lab and lab-to-customer shipments, as well as lead all aspects of procurement. The role includes developing corporate-level supplier relationships, managing OEM partnerships, and ensuring continuity of service and supply across the calibration lab network.
This role will also manage a team of buyers who support local procurement at the lab level, aligning local needs with centralized sourcing strategies. The Director will be a key member of the operations leadership team and report directly to the Vice President of Operations.
Key Responsibilities
Logistics and Fleet Management:
• Lead logistics planning and execution for SIMCO’s U.S. calibration laboratory network.
• Manage lab-to-lab and lab-to-customer shipping operations, optimizing for speed, cost, and reliability.
• Oversee fleet operations, including vehicle acquisition, utilization, and maintenance strategies.
• Develop and monitor logistics KPIs to identify improvement opportunities in transit time, cost efficiency, and service quality.
Procurement and Supplier Management:
• Direct corporate procurement strategy for calibration equipment, tools, and general lab supplies.
• Establish and maintain strategic relationships with OEM partners and suppliers.
• Negotiate and manage corporate-level supply contracts, leveraging economies of scale across the network.
• Oversee compliance with vendor terms, delivery timelines, and service quality standards.
Team and Cross-functional Leadership:
• Lead and develop a geographically dispersed team of buyers supporting over a dozen labs.
• Foster collaboration with lab managers, operations leaders, and finance to align supply chain strategy with operational goals. Lead and mentor lab shipping and receiving professionals on a dotted line basis, providing guidance and support.
• Ensure cross-departmental coordination for forecasting, procurement planning, and demand management of lab supplies and ancillary equipment.
Operational Excellence and Compliance:
• Design and implement process improvements to streamline logistics and procurement workflows.
• Prepare and present reports on logistics and procurement performance and strategic initiatives to senior management.
• Lead system optimization efforts related to SIMCO’s Enterprise systems.
• Develop and manage budgets for logistics operations, tracking expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and documentation for all logistics and purchasing activities.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in logistics, fleet management, supply chain operations, and procurement, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related discipline. MBA or relevant master’s degree .
