Responsibilities
Provide leadership in environmental health, safety, and risk management with thorough knowledge of occupational safety and health, including industrial hygiene (OSHA), hazardous materials management, and environmental law (EPA and ADEC).
Apply general knowledge of risk management, emergency management, safety planning, protection of minors, and general contracts.
Communicate effectively, build consensus, mentor staff, and stay current with changes in applicable law and regulation.
Possess excellent organization and prioritization skills; travel to UAF rural sites as required; possess or obtain an Alaska Driver's License; pass a background check.
Qualifications
Perform physical duties associated with the typical office environment; site visits and inspections could require extensive walking and the ability to crawl, climb, crouch, kneel, and lift up to 30 pounds with or without mechanical assistance.
Minimum Qualifications (Experience and Supervisory)
Minimum seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in environmental, health, safety, and/or risk management within a complex operation, plus minimum four (4) years of supervisory experience; ability to work across disciplines with a diverse array of stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications (Education and Certifications)
Master’s degree in a relevant field and six years of progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. PhD .
Bachelor's degree with major coursework in environmental science/engineering, occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, public health, health science, chemistry or related field .
One or more of the following certifications are : CSP, CIH, ARM, PE, or CHMM.
A valid driver's license and a clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria is required.
Position Details
This position is on-site and located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. This is a full-time, exempt staff position with a competitive salary and a full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 84, based on education and experience.
