This role leads engineering across complex defence programmes. The Director of Engineering sets technical strategy, assures quality and safety, and builds high-performing teams. Working with senior stakeholders, they drive innovation, delivery and long-term capability while governing design, compliance and continuous improvement across multi-site operations within regulated, mission-critical environments globally.\n\nClient Details\n\nDirector Of Engineering: The client is a SME engineering organisation operating within the defence, aerospace and security sector.

They design, develop and support highly complex, technology‑led systems across air, land, sea and space, working on long‑term, high‑integrity programmes that support security and mission‑critical capability.\n\nDescription\n\nDirector Of Engineering:\n\n* Sets and owns the engineering strategy aligned to business and programme goals\n * Leads large, multi-disciplinary engineering teams across complex programmes\n * Provides governance for engineering quality, safety and technical assurance\n * Oversees design, development and lifecycle support of mission-critical systems\n * Works closely with executive stakeholders, customers and regulators\n * Drives innovation, continuous improvement and engineering best practice\n * Manages engineering risk, capability planning and succession development\n * Ensures compliance with regulatory, contractual and internal standards\n\nProfile\n\nDirector Of Engineering:\n \n* Senior engineering leader with experience in regulated, safety-critical sectors\n * Strong background in systems, hardware or complex product engineering\n * Proven track record of leading large engineering organisations\n * Commercially aware with experience supporting major programmes\n * Credible at executive level with internal and external stakeholders\n * Demonstrates strong governance, assurance and risk management capability\n * Experience operating in matrix environments\n * Degree qualified in Engineering or a related discipline\n\nJob Offer\n\nSalary of circa £100,000 to £115,000 plus excellent package
