Position Summary
The Director of Engineering & Facilities is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the physical property operations, golf, maintenance, and capital improvements at Villa Roma Resort & Conference Center. This senior leadership position ensures safe, efficient, and well-maintained facilities while managing resources effectively and supporting the resort's commitment to exceptional guest experiences.
Key ResponsibilitiesFacilities Management & Operations
- Develop and implement comprehensive preventive maintenance programs for all resort buildings, grounds, utilities, and mechanical systems
- Oversee all engineering and maintenance operations including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, pool systems, grounds maintenance, and facility renovations
- Lead energy management initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce utility costs
- Ensure compliance with all applicable building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards
- Direct the maintenance of resort grounds, landscape features, and snow removal operations
- Manage the maintenance of all resort vehicles and motorized equipment
Leadership & Team Management
- Recruit, train, develop, and evaluate engineering and maintenance staff
- Schedule and supervise engineering and maintenance personnel across multiple shifts
- Foster a team culture focused on preventive maintenance, quality workmanship, and guest satisfaction
- Collaborate with department heads to address maintenance needs and support special events
- Implement and manage safety training programs for engineering staff
Project & Budget Management
- Develop and monitor annual operating budgets for the engineering and maintenance departments
- Manage capital improvement projects from planning through completion
- Establish and maintain effective vendor relationships and contractor oversight
- Research, recommend, and implement new technologies and systems to enhance operational efficiency
- Track inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment
Emergency Response & Risk Management
- Develop and maintain emergency response protocols for facility-related incidents
- Serve as a key member of the resort's crisis management team
- Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments of all resort facilities
- Lead facility-related emergency response efforts (power outages, storms, flooding, etc.)
- Maintain thorough documentation of all maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs
QualificationsEducation & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facility Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in facility maintenance and operations
- At least 5 years of supervisory experience in a resort, hotel, or similar large-scale operation
- Demonstrated experience managing capital improvement projects and maintenance budgets
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems
Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, pool operations, and grounds maintenance
- Knowledge of building codes, ADA requirements, OSHA regulations, and environmental compliance
- Proficiency with building management systems and preventive maintenance software
- Understanding of energy management practices and sustainability initiatives
- Working knowledge of construction management and renovation processes

- Analytical problem-solving approach with hands-on technical capabilities
- Ability to prioritize competing demands and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and facility management software
Working Conditions
- Regular walking and inspection of resort property (100+ acres)
- On-call availability for emergency situations
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Some exposure to weather conditions, mechanical equipment, and maintenance environments
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and navigate all areas of the resort property
