The Director of Engineering is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction for the entire engineering function, including both manufacturing engineering and product development. This role requires a visionary leader who can drive innovation, ensure operational excellence, and align engineering objectives with the company’s overall goals. The Director of Engineering will oversee the Engineering Manager and collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute short-term, mid-term, and long-term plans for the company.

Requirements:
Specific Tasks:
- Oversee the identification, analysis, and assignment of all engineering work, ensuring efficient workflow and project prioritization.
- Collaborate with the Engineering Manager to monitor and adjust weekly schedules and overtime hours based on current workload and schedule requirements, in consultation with the VP.
- Review, question, modify, and approve setup sheets, and initiate Process Change Requests when necessary to optimize production processes.
- Provide processing and timing advice for quotations as requested and take responsibility for preparing accurate and competitive quotations as assigned.
- Lead and assist with internal audits, ensuring that all engineering activities comply with industry standards and company protocols, and support external audits as required.
- Work closely with the Quality department to resolve questions and conflicts regarding drawing interpretations and inspection methodologies.
- Proactively identify and communicate staffing deficiencies, preferably in advance, to maintain optimal team performance.
- Ensure that all training records for the engineering team are up to date, accurate, and reflect current skill levels.
- Facilitate the Engineering Manager’s efforts in maintaining an organized and effective engineering pipeline, ensuring all projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, efficiency, and quality within the engineering department.
Qualifications/Skill Sets Required:
- 15+ years of engineering experience, including a minimum of 7 years in a senior management or leadership role within a CNC machining or manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field; Master’s degree .
- Proven ability to lead and develop engineering teams, with a strong track record of managing complex, high-impact projects
- Extensive experience in strategic planning, resource allocation, and process optimization within an engineering context.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to address complex engineering challenges efficiently and effectively.
- In-depth knowledge of CNC machining processes, including experience with quoting and processing machined components.
- Proficiency in Six Sigma, Lean Tools/Methodologies, and continuous improvement practices.
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, MasterCAM, Partmaker, and other relevant CAD/CAM software.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills, with the ability to influence and guide cross-functional teams.
- High level of proficiency with MS-Office Products, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
