Director - Electric Operations

The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from:

  • $139,000 - $173,000 (Augusta, ME)

Job Summary:

Oversees the activities of Electric Distribution and Transmission Operations and provides leadership and direction to achieve organizational goals and implement change. Responsibilities include safety, reliability, customer satisfaction, cost-effective resource allocation, staff selection and development, process improvement and oversight, major project management, and daily field operations activities. Coordinates and participates in problem resolution and emergency response with other functional and subject matter experts. Ensures administrative matters such as payroll, budgeting, performance management, safety compliance, scheduling, and work management reports are completed in a timely and accurate manner. Ensures the use of Operational dashboard data for optimal decision-making across the department, and the organization as a whole. Requires contact with the public, IBEW Leadership, union workforce. contractors, local government agencies and officials, other utilities, and the media. Requires extensive travel throughout the regions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the annual business plan for Electric Operations including O&M and Capital budgets. Monitor ongoing progress and reallocate resources as necessary to ensure goal achievement (Safety, Reliability, and Customer Service).

  • Oversee and evaluate work processes. Identify and implement process improvements.

  • Create a climate of innovation, in which ideas for process improvements are continually encouraged from within the organization.

  • Oversee departmental initiatives, the preparation of budgets, and the tracking, cost control, and reporting of O&M and Capital expenditures.

  • Responsible for employee goal setting and objectives while ensuring alignment with departmental and corporate goals.

  • Review reports that document performance in meeting departmental, corporate, or regulatory goals and requirements. 

  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and generate reports for leadership.

  • Analyze variances in schedules or budgets and implement corrective actions.

  • Represent the company on various teams or committees regarding state, local, regional, or issues. Acts as liaison for the Company with customers and with state and municipal agencies to coordinate efforts.

  • Responsible for leading the coordination between the Manager Distribution Operations (fieldwork), Planning and engineering team (field planning & and scheduling), and Stores team (material/logistics).

  • Reinforce the use of data analysis within the teams for optimum decision-making.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, business, or a related discipline, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or an Associate degree and 12 years of relevant experience, or a High School Diploma and 15 years of relevant experience in electric operations, transmission, distribution, system design, or engineering.

  • Thorough knowledge of company, federal, and state policies and procedures.

  • Prior supervisory/management experience.

  • Familiarity with budget preparation.

  • Knowledge of electric maintenance delivery practices.

  • Ability to proactively monitor changing industry trends and develop appropriate strategies/plans.

  • Strong analytical and forecasting abilities; strategic decision maker.

  • Excellent communication and leadership.

  • Deep understanding of electrical systems and safety protocols.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.


Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree.

  • PMP Certification (Project Management Professional).

  • Contractor oversight/management experience.
